Another Rahkshi Kaita Combiner MOC

Another go at a combiner–created with Lerahk, Guurahk, and Kurahk, this also only uses the parts from the original three sets.

The idea behind this was to create a horse with a snake’s head, a “horse snake” (as I’ve dubbed it in my mind). Canonically, Rahkshi Kaita, along with its three component powers, possesses a fourth additional power; I like to imagine this Kaita has the additional ability of “area effect,” letting it passively emit its primary powers in the surrounding area around it (which in this case would be: poison, anger, and disintegration). So despite how unthreatening this creature may appear at first, this is actually one of the more dangerous Kaita fusions.

Really impressive how you’ve managed to handle the colour blocking, & the body shape.
The whole model just feels so smooth & cohesive.
I know the other combiner actually had kraata placement areas, does this one have them too?

I like how you managed to capture the horse-like look so perfectly such that it is instantly recognizable as a horse-like creature, even without being told that (unlike some Bionicle creatures). I really find it astounding that, given how good this looks, it is made only of the parts of three Rahkshi. Amazing!

I saw this one on reddit the other day, so it’s cool to see it here as well. Super striking build, especially that front half with the unique hoof design and really powerful looking neck area. The idea of a snake horse is sick. Excellent job: I like this one even more than the last!

Technically yes, technically no. One kraata is actually used in the construction of the MOC, so there’s only two kraata to place in the shells. All the shells can technically house a kraata, but there’s no actual proper pin hole in place to hold them (and this MOC wasn’t made in mind to hold kraata).

The blue shell at the back of the neck has an exposed axle, so you can “connect” the bottom of the hollowed out kraata to that piece, and it will remain secure once the shell is closed.

The green shell at the front of the neck has enough room to hold a kraata as well, but it’s very spacious and there’s no secure connection whatsoever, the kraata in there will kinda just be flopping around.

The white shell on the back is able to lock in place even tighter than the original rahkshi shells, despite lacking the inner piece. A kraata can be placed in here very securely and won’t move around at all.

@Zhyndea

Thanks, but I’m actually not too entirely pleased with how this model came out. I’m happy with the neck and legs, but the rest of the torso area went through several iterations and I never was too happy with any of them. I definitely could have worked on this a bit more, but I got frustrated with this at the end of the build (and started another Kaita which I was having a lot more fun with) and just decided to push this out as the end result. Some of the building became a bit sloppy at the end due to this; if you have a keen eye you might have noticed two illegal connections (the green and white rahkshi heads aren’t actually connected traditionally to the model at all, they’re both slightly squeezed/secured in place by the surrounding parts/axles).

:fearful: But it looks so good! It’s definitely better than 90%+ of the official Bionicle combiner models!

But it always could be better :slight_smile: Gotta somehow beat that last 10%~ with my next combiner :slight_smile:

The shaping is really good, although the tiny face and wacky back feet throw off the model a little. You’ve been knocking it out of the park with the shaping and the limited parts selection - keep it up!

This really is such a good moc, and I think that the way it’s photographed really compliments the design. Seriously love this moc.

This thing is awsome,one thing ive always liked about combiner models is dicovering their hidden action functions.

I always love to see combo models from early Bionicle sets, so I was always going to love this, but then you said

and really piqued my interest. I’ve got to ask how you did that.

@Ghid

I agree that the back feet are pretty wacky, but alas, limited parts! But I felt that choice was a fine solution, considering my part options and the general idea for the torso I already had in my mind.

@TheRadiantOne

Oh don’t be mislead, those gears you see near the front of the torso are just for show, to fill out a gap in the figure a bit more. They don’t actually have a function!

@biomechanical_baboon

It’s much simpler than you’re probably imagining, you can actually see that kraata from the images I’ve posted. The blue kraata is placed on top of the feet used in the neck, snugly in between the two inner shell pieces, right at the base of the blue shell. Since the blue shell is connected via an axle at the bottom, and does not lock in place at the top, it flops open–the blue kraata acts as a stopper to prevent this and keep it in place.

Well this is a pleasant surprise, rebuilt my original Kaita Combiner MOC with the other rahkshi, and as it turns out, this Horse MOC is stable enough to be used as a steed by the other.

Had to swap one of the colors for the original combiner since I only own one Lerahk; and I may just prefer the look of this over the original.

I was actually considering using red-black-brown as the color scheme when building the first MOC, those colors were actually the basis for the 2nd version of its WIP (and the 1st ver, the initial build, used white-red-black [the image below is actually the 4th ver of the MOC, the 1st ver had a drastically different color arrangement])..

But, alas, I fell in love with the look of the Lehrak staffs as the middle spines, so I went with green. The color distribution for the black and browns was also different in the 2nd ver than the final ver (so the red didn’t look too great, imo), but this rendition you see below presents a much more striking and stronger contrast compared to the green as the main accent color. Definitely prefer the overall look of this, even if it lacks my preferred middle staff spine piece.

(Also, I figured this fell under the creative content topic exemption for the double posting rule, hence this sperate post from my reply above, but if it doesn’t- oh no, mods please don’t punish me.)

Super impressive that it can actually support it. Both of these builds just highlight how many good/cohesive parts come with the Rahkshi.

Yeah, usually if it’s the topic’s owner adding additional content to a topic, it’s not considered a double post.

Much less menacing compared to your first one, I like it.

Also the first combiner looks awesome with those colors.

I thought they were imposing before… Now they look like a video game boss, like Ganondof demanding the ocarina in Ocarina of Time!

Beware, children, or the Rahkshi Kaita will get you…
But if three were cruel enough…
Six spell certain doom…
And with a steed of power and a rider of steel…
No soul survives the Rahkshi Nui…

They really do have such a fantastic part selection, I’m happy that I decided to make the Rahkshi one of my first Bionicle purchases in 10 years after losing my old collection.

@Zhyndea

Nice poem, and I suppose this could be considered an unofficial “Rahkshi Nui”… but I think I’ll try my hand at making an actual 6 Rahkshi Combiner after my next Kaita :smiling_face_with_horns:

The Rahkshi shoulders as hooves :ok_hand:

Also the two Kaita as steed and a rider makes for a quite terrifying visual
