Avon, the Maestro

Bio: Avon has always loved music. Hailing from a small village on one of the southern islands, he quickly took up an interest in chant singing. Once he emigrated to the Southern Continent, Avon would take lessons in both horn and reed, customary instruments of the Matoran. However, he would take special interest in a strange new instrument called the Rugita. A strummed string instrument held by hand, Avon would be one of the first Maroran to ever learn the rugita— and would come to love it. Avon took to traveling the lands, using his rugita and his voice to entertain and tell stories wherever he went. Though his life is sometimes a little lonely, Avon believes in his heart that music is his Destiny.
Does Destiny have bigger plans for this musical vagabond and his songs? Only Time will tell…

Personality: Avon has a deep passion for songcraft. Less overly sensitive to sound than other De-Matoran, he loves to hum to himself, constantly composing new melodies. When not making music, Avon enjoys learning new things and spending time with friends— although, he does sometimes struggle with making friends. Avon is a deeply empathetic individual, and genuinely enjoys brightening the lives of others with his company and music. However, he can also be somewhat reserved at times, veiling his compassion from those who don’t know him well. Indeed— sometimes Avon best expresses himself not through his own words… but through song.

Tools/Traits: Avon carries his rugita with him wherever he travels, often strumming idly in his free time. As a De-Matoran, he possesses heightened bearing and sensitivity to hearing— though he’s not as easily aggravated by noise as most De-Matoran (likely due to being more used to loud sounds from his time spent playing music).

Music is a big part of my life, so my Self-MOC was always going to be some sort of musician. I had fun designing these technic-centric instruments for Avon to play! Hopefully one day I can get a physical build of him! He utilizes my personally designed “Definitive Matoran Torso” build, and has lots of detailing and ornamentation.
Avon likely won’t be featured in the NLAU anytime soon, but who knows :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Ah this looks like a pretty good Matoran moc! Torso and instrument builds look very nice and the lore is awesome! Very nice job here.

Thank you! The torso is one of my own design, with it’s core feature being the slanted connectors for the arms, which give it a distinct shaping. It lends itself well to customizability and iteration, with lots of different places you can add subtle little details and ornamentations for variety!

If you’d like to see a breakdown of the torso for potential usage, I’ve actually uploaded instructions to Imgur: https://imgur.com/gallery/gwbYt3a

The shoulder orientation bothered me a bit at first but it’s starting to grow on me.

Thank you! Lately I’ve been enamored with Matoran builds, and how to add variety and distinctive ornamentation to builds on a smaller scale, so that definitely contributed to the choice. (I also know a notable number of my favorite fellow builders on Insta have Matoran self-MOCs)
And felt it was more fitting than a Toa self-MOC. Not sure what that says about me or if there’s some deep meaning behind that😂 it just seemed right for me.
Maybe one day Avon will become a Toa, who knows!
