Hi everyone!

To celebrate BIONICLE Day (810NICLE Day), I decided to tackle one of the most terrifying, and in my opinion visually interesting, characters of the Bara Magna era, the Baterra.

Being named so by the Skrall as ‘silent death’, the Baterra were built by the Great Beings to quell the Core War conflict, but instead simply massacred anyone carrying a weapon. The Baterra were illustrated in two comics, most notably in All Our Sins Remembered and Fall and Rise of the Skrall.

My interpretation drew more from the Stuart Sayger illustrated AOSR, with a bit more of a hunched look. Obviously, I had to do a lot of painting on this one, besides the helmets, 8 Hewkii Mahri blades and 12 large figure mace halves.

The are a bit challenging to pose, and the use of the Av-Matoran limbs, used for era-accurate design, does inhibit the ways in which I can move the arms, but overall, I still think they look pretty good.

@Squiddo Thanks a lot! I consider it a great compliment to be compared to the actual sets, and that was exactly the vibe I was working towards in their design.

This is a pretty good replica of what we got. Those long blades in Dark Blue would have been an awesome recolour.

Thanks for the compliment. I wasn’t 100% pleased with the color of the blades, but I didn’t want to leave them silver, either. I think so many weapons should have/could have been recolored just a little bit during G1’s run.
