Battera, Bionicle Stars Remake and bonus g2 counterpart

, , ,

Specifically, the Baterra is replacing the Skrall, because doing a crappy little set after doing a cool one that was still widely available was a bit silly. It’s a thematic “Should’ve been this“ remake rather than an actual remake, which would just be the original skrall set…

I do have a 3d printed mask, I used Krylon aluminum and a satin coat to color match. It is really nice. (Unfortunately, from shapeways, which is gone.) But I tend to use the Drilldozer/Firelord mask, as it fits the look really well.

I don’t particularly like the mace potato piece, so I used less of them than most mocs I see (Which is less accurate). I did the spiky bits on the hands and back with Nuhvok-kal shields.

The talons spread rather than fold. The shoulder pads are also fixed above the arms rather than connected to them.

I also designed a G2 style version, using the traditional transparent plastic of the g2 style. It is smoother and has a gearbox function, though the helmet gets in the way.

The design is updated and improved for combat, dropping the shapeshifting in favor of an advanced cloaking field. The design has tougher armor than the original, though it still relies heavily on ambush to kill its targets. The primary difference is the baterra now follow direct commands from ‘select’ great beings, rather than following pre-programmed directive.

Ignore the Firelord face. It was never there.

I really like these! They do a good job of capturing the aesthetic of their respective generation without feeling too overly-complex. Excellent work!

What’s the piece count difference between the two models?

Baterra G2 is 90 pieces, 70 pieces (I might be missing a pin or two.) Sorry, took a bit of time to dig out the g1 style guy.
