I’ve heard a lot about Optifine, but is that the best one out there? Let me know which ones are your favorite and what versions.

I primarily use optifine, but that’s just so the game runs smoother on my potato of a computer.

Optifine is not a shader. It’s the mod that allows you to run them, so you do need it, but the shaders themselves do not come pre-installed.
Sonic Ether’s Unbelievable Shaders is the best one visually, but it won’t run with certain graphics cards.
Beyond that it’s up to personal preference.
