Here is a thread to post some appreciation for the year 2005 for Bionicle whether it’d be the much maligned sets or the much maligned story or the final movie in the Miramax Bionicle Trilogy, Bionicle 3: Web Of Shadows.
Oh, 2005…oh the childhood nostalgia. This was the year that got me into Bionicle. I loved the story of the Toa Metru turning into Toa Hordika, I loved reading Web Of The Visorak and Challenge Of The Hordika, loved the Hordika and Visorak sets as a kid, loved the Rahaga sets and I of course loved the Toa Hagah. I also Vakama’s descent into darkness and I loved Bionicle 3: Web Of Shadows and I still think it’s the best movie of the Miramax trilogy and the best Bionicle movie overall.
2005 was also the only year I collected most of the sets and owned all the titans. As a kid, I absolutely loved building and playing with Keetongu, Roodaka and Sidorak. I also still really like Nokama’s Hordika form and I prefer it to her Toa Metru form.
Overall, it’s not my favorite year for Bionicle and far from it and there were definitely way better years for the brand set-wise (and storywise), but I can never bring myself to hate 2005.
But, this is it as far year appreciation topics go…I’m not going to be doing any appreciation threads for 2001-2003 or 2006-2008 and I need to give my threads time to breathe before creating new ones.
Like the last year, I love the villain group for 2005. The Visorak are very unique and unlike anything else before or since. They’e poseable and their unique stance leads to a lot of cool poses. Their Rhotuka launcher is fun and the pincer gimmick is interesting.
Keetongu and Sidorak are nice titans, and the year gets bonus points for introducing minifig scale playsets.
I was not a BIONICLE fan in 2005, but getting Sidorak eight years later more or less allowed my self-MOC to exist in the way he did. I’d like to get my hands on Keetongu and Roodaka as well at some point. The latter is probably the most important character from 2005 when I discuss the line with non-fans… still wild that her design made it into a set.
I absolutely agree that web of shadows is the best Bionicle movie in the miramax trilogy. and while I don’t own roodaka I can absolutely say that sidorak and keetongu are some awesome sets!
I know that might be a hard choice for some people and the Toa Hordika are heavily disliked as sets among the fanbase, but my favorite has always been Nokama in her Hordika form. I also like Nuju and Whenua’s Hordika forms as well.
