Bionicle 2008 Appreciation Thread.

I know I said I wouldn’t do one of these topics for the years 2006-2008…but screw it, I’m going to do one for 2008.

But, this is a thread to post some appreciation for the year 2008 for Bionicle whether it’d be some of the well received sets AND the much maligned sets or the excellent story for 2008 such as the incredibly shocking twist with Makuta Teridax orchestrating a plot to overthrow the Great Spirit Mata Nui and seizing control of the Universe at the end of the year.

Ahh 2008…next to Toa Inika Matoro, Toa Phantoka Lewa is probably the coolest and best looking Toa set ever. 2008 really got me into the Toa Nuva as characters and I remember how excited everyone was to see the Toa Nuva return as the main focus of the story and to be able to get new and updated for 2008 sets back then even though some of new sets for our long-time favorite heroes disappointed us (looking at you Gali Mistika).

But, besides being a mixed bag set-wise, 2008 was an incredible year story wise and you can argue it was the best year ever for the Bionicle story and overall lore even though this year is what arguably sunk the brand into cancellation.

I hold the unpopular opinion that Kopaka Phantoka is awesome.
I love the laser scope and the bayonet for some reason

IMO, 2008 was a great year for Bionicle, at least in terms of overall story and presentation.
I liked how the characters’ designs and the year’s theme were centered around the “flight” aesthetics.
Even the Mistika wave of sets that many fans still dislike had stuck a chord with Me. (Although, I’ll give you, that the adaptive mask variants of Tahu, Onua, and Gali could’ve been better.)
The Karda-toran / Av-matoran build is the only aspect of that year I cannot defend, those were pretty meh.
The vehicles on the other hand, now, those were fantastic!

Overall, it was a solid year, I’d rate it as 7,5 or 8 out of 10.

Speaking of 2008, I LOVE every Makuta sets that year, Phantoka and Mistika. :kissing_heart:

I’m fascinated by their animal-inspired look (I already love bugs and bats), and how they’re all so different from each other.

I’ll give a prop to Krika especially for how alien he looks. :alien:
