Ummm… animated by a gold Mask and controlled by a spider do not mean the same thing.
Edit: random kreepy idea: what if, when a Skull Spider possesses someone, it plants a seed so that, when that protector dies, their skull becomes a Skull Spider?

I used the search and, unless Kulta is named in the second book, ‘Kulta’ doesn’t appear in the first book at all.
I wonder if Kulta is an accidental release of another BIONICLE Villain’s name…
The issue is that there is no main source it seems, Gen 2’s media seems to be divided into groups. The animation writers don’t interact with the book writers, the book writers don’t interact with the comic creators. That sort of thing.
Though naturally they all work from the same source work - which is a template and a metaphysical ‘book of lore’ they have to follow. They probably do have someone surveying each the separate groups, but at the moment if that person/persons exist they are a mystery.
Its possible we could find more information out about them in later books, as they’ll probably pad things out a bit.
Doubt that as unlike the websites the magazine seemed to be written by someone aware of what they were doing at the time. A mistake therefore seems less likely. Its probably just an occasion where the character was given a name, but the name was not necessary for the books because the title worked equally well.

Ugh. just coincidences all the time.
Mask of Ultimate Power itself is a huge name for something, with a lot of common consonants and vowels. Take my username for example:
Chronicler
Chro nicler
C n i o
Rearrange the letters, it spells coin.
Chronicler therefore TOTALLY means that coins associate with some evil link with me, because that’s totally how names work.
Or it’s all a coincidence, since, you know, the word chronicler happens to have 3 different vowels and several common consonants.
