Ah, I forgot about Rogue One. I assumed it would be with the other Star Wars Constraction. Ah well. Sorry about that.
If we should get a Makuta set that looks like how Makuta is shown in this trailer I just hope that the legs are as much of a custom build than the rest of the body seems to be.
Well, standard bones would be too skinny, so…
So Ekimu is now… Takanuva? … No. NO!
Something like this seems about the level we can expect. I’d suggest adding one of the smaller CCBS bone pieces to extend the neck though and switching out the lower armour piece with one of the wider ones.
Personally i think they may even go one step further. In the trailer we see the Toa about to charge at Umarak, presumably they are going to use their powers here to try and defeat him. If they want to mirror the Roodaka idea, why not have Umarak (Under Makuta’s will) sacrifice himself getting hit by the Toa, falling into the portal and enabling Makuta to be resurrected.
I think its worth acknowledging that just because he says ‘take his rightful place amongst the gods’ it does not mean that gods are confirmed for Bionicle. Only thing it confirms is that in Okoto, there is a form of religion or tradition that has worshipped gods - most likely similar to how human cultures from the past claimed that there were gods for specific elements, planets, etc…
It may be accurate, though just the idea of someone wanting to become a god doesn’t mean that there are actually gods existing in that universe - it just confirms the concept exists in some form (And that’s if we are assuming that the dialogue actually correlates to the Bionicle universe and isn’t just a word that wouldn’t fit the context of the established universe)
Probably similar to how G1 Makuta wanted to take over the Mata Nui body.
Doesn’t confirm it. However it does give them a design that they could use if we do get him in set form.
Similar to the enlarged Toa-sized version of Makuta, it doesn’t automatically mean we’ll get it in set form.
I don’t feel that’s accurate, the things surrounding the wheel/shield piece on his chest are likely new molds of armour pieces.
Kind of concerned this may end up being the case - it would be epic as long as it looks amazing though.
Ekimu has always drawn aspects from Artakha (Wears the Mask Of Creation), Mata Nui (Seems to be one of the two founding aspects of Okoto, has a ‘brother’ Makuta) and Takanuva (Going from Matoran-sized to Toa-sized, Seventh Toa-like being)
==================
So based off this and the art i must admit that Ultimate Makuta is looking rather nice. Well, when i say that it looks interesting and there seem to be some variance enough so that it wont just be a smooth surface for all his chest and arms…
I would suggest an alternative though to the common idea going around that he’s using an Ekimu shield piece as his chest though.
It works a lot better in terms of the scale of the builds and it makes more sense given this actually has a spiral design. Granted it doesn’t have the back detail, however I’m unsure as to whether that is actually part of the circular piece on his chest as the scale doesn’t match with the circular piece compared to the Shadow Trap jaw…
Im actualy ok with Ekimu being able to use light (if that is his power that is) and lets not forget the fact that his “Toa” body is made of crystal like armor (i mean its possible that Ekimu made the armor by using the crystals from THE CHAMBER OF CREATION!!!) so why would he not be able to use the light element?
also, i am starting to wonder if its possible that Ekimu and Makuta might have been former gods or could be the decendants of gods (by that i mean in legends, and not in the real world of Okoto) Because, if they where former gods, it would make sence of Ekimu’s “toa” form. But if they where decendants, they would basicly be demi-gods, which would kind of make sence if one think about Makuta’s desire to become a true god.
speaking of which, Ekimu and Makuta’s secondary colors and Makuta’s god line, reminds me of this moment from Transformers Prime (heck, Megatron also in a way says the “rightfull place among the gods” line):
To me this already makes sense… if you want power the idea of being a ‘god’ is pretty much the pinnacle of that power. He’s already moved from having a physical body to being more of a spiritual thing, and now he’s going to hopefully ascend to the point where he is all-powerful as a ‘god-like being’
It also mirrors G1 in how Makuta acts;
- In G1 Makuta didn’t just want to beat Mata Nui, he wanted to become Mata Nui
- In G2 Makuta doesn’t just want to be powerful he wants to become the most powerful being in all of reality by being a god
Makuta doesn’t think small goals, he takes the core concept of those goals and pushes it to the limits… past the point of no return and as the song goes, his issue is with keeping his position once he achieves his goal. I expect the story will mirror this, Makuta succeeds in becoming a god-like being and 2017 would then be the Toa finding the Mask Of Time to change things, at least that’s what I’m hoping for at this stage.
well, the thing is that Teridax “original” plan was not to gain control of the universe but to gain control of the matorans, it was after his first (and real) defeat at the hands of the Toa Metru, that he changed the goal of his plans and made it so that he could gain control of the Matoran Universe instead.
i think the same might have happend to Makuta, originaly he wanted to control the power of the MoUP for the good of the island (we still don’t know if that was his true intentions… nor do i think we will ever get an answer to it) but after Ekimu knocked the MoUP off his face, Makuta, just like Teridax, then alterd the goal of his plans.
well there is another side of the “gain god like powers” coin… namely… the possibility that you might not be able to control the powers you desire.
thats the thing that many villains who wish to gain the powers of a god ultimatly learns in the end. That amount of power is hard to control, and G2 have made it important to remember that too much power is dangerous to be just veilded by one persion, i mean that is what lead to the cataclysm of Okoto in the begining.
let me give you all an exampel, in the Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap manga, the main antagonist of the story, Vaati, losses control of the god like powers he had uptaind near the end of the story, let me show you two images from the manga:
Vaati, transforming himself with the god like powers
Vaati, mutating into a monster when he begins to lose control of the powers
Now what will happend after i don’t know, ither A: Makuta is brough back to his sences and returns to his brother’s side or B: he just thinks that his failure to control his powers where just a minor setback and instead continues to try to gain ultimate power.
Taking into consideration the original Makuta set was gunmetal and most of the pieces used on the new Makuta model were originally released in gunmetal, along with the purple colour of the scenery and Makuta’s apparition, I am going to guess the colour scheme of his set will be primarily gunmetal and transparent purple.
Swirly Purple Void Design, now where have we seen that before…
A lot of LEGO main Villains have a Void Swirly thing in their design or something Void Related, like Von Nebula, Lord Vortech, and Antimatter here…and now Makuta. The funny thing is all of them are main villains.
That crystal behind umarak looks like the movie makuta crystal
True, he kind of had that happen with the MoUP before so it would make sense in the narrative if, now that he’s somewhat mastered the MoUP, his attempt to master god-like powers results in him losing control or mutating.
I just hope it is not one of those situations where the villain is defeated by winning… they get the thing they have been wanting and immediately are defeated because of it. Such as if Makuta gets god-like powers however then dies because the power consumes him. I’d rather not have an anti-climactic ending.
This sort of thing could happen with Makuta as a way to give us a combo model…
Personally expecting black, trans-purple and gunmetal based off that image from JTO. I’d rather see recolors of the pieces if we are unlikely to get a bunch of new molds.
I was originally hoping for red and black given the animations, though i guess they aren’t going with that.
Yeah, i believe the general theory is that vortex’s are scary to people based on the fear of a black hole - the mystery of them and the destructive power they possess. Its one of the reasons they are often re-used. Plus you can use them as portals also along with the general coolness of having a villain in a swirling vortex.
Guys stop your speculating about what Makuta in JTO would look like as a set. I have a picture of what that would look like right here.
But ya I dont think its gonna be the actual design. But hey I think they’re all wearing a prototype gold MoUP. Or it might be the real deal.

Makuta have a staff as his weapon?
#Massive spoiler for JTO!
Yep… called it
So yeah, Makuta is 100% brought to life in episode 4 of JTO
The middle one appears to be the closest to the JTO design, so guess they have went with something similar to that;
i see villagers, skull spiders (could they be on skull warriors?)
thats actualy what the designers said, that is the design they went for in JtO.
In the video they do say that’s how they portrayed him in JTO.
