BIONICLE 2016 Leaks Discussion Topic

Since I’ve taken a serious liking to Pohatu thanks to the leaks last week of the box pictures, I’ll agree/disagree with you on some things about these two.

Build: I totally agree. Uniter Pohatu will be much more complex than Master Pohatu was last year. The weird skinny arms, the parts hidden behind the large dark tan chest piece should provide some complexity which was missing from last year’s variation of the character.

Style: Also absolutely agree. Although I at first came to the conclusion that Uniter Pohatu’s symmetry deviated away from that waste-lander look, we get this box art, and the potential for one seriously cool combo model between him and Ketar. Just wait for that combo…he’ll be back to his waste-lander look in no time.

Weapon: I would say these two are tied as well. I like all his weapons so far. I originally thought the flail thing wasn’t cool…but no…it is.

Colour: Here is where I have to begin disagreeing. I think Uniter’s colours are vibrant, dusty, sandy…it makes no sense considering he’s the Toa of Stone…but it makes so much sense at the same time! He is clearly a desert walker and the colours add to the look that he’s going for. Much better than Master Pohatu, whose colour I really like…it’s just that he had so much more silver, that it was, for me at least, a little lack-luster.

Mask: Again, I disagree. I still love Master P’s mask, but Uniter P’s mask is…incredibly cool. I can’t explain it…it’s a subjective thing.

I don’t think Uniter P should be changed at all actually. Anyway, my opinion!

On the talk of Potatos…

Build: 2016 version wins, as the 2015 version was very standard in build. Not that it’s a bad thing, but it is lackluster compared to the other 2015 toa.

Style: 2015 wins. It had this nice type of style, using the western wasteland stereotype and the fact that Pohatu felt… amputated. Our potato here doesn’t seem to have a style, actually.

Weapon. 2015 really wins. For one, it’s a inventive concept. On the other hand, it wasn’t executed the best. The boomerangs were flimsy. Really flimsy. The 2016 version, however, is not as good as 2015. It’s essentially a spear with a boulder tacked onto it.

Color: 2016 did it well in adding an arguably fitting shade of brown, but 2015 wins because it was executed well. The distribution was very well placed but the 2016 version feels uneven when looking at how the color scheme was done.

Mask: 2016, screw 2015 Pohatu, you dumb batman wannabe. FITE ME YOU SCRU-

Overall, both Pohatus are equal. How would the 2016 version win, though? Make the color distribution better, add an actual style, and better weapons. Simple.

I hope that maybe in 201(7/8/9), we see A battle between a returned Makuta with the mask of ultimate power and maybe “ultimate” Toa to help Ekimu to defeat his brother. Through the ultimate unity, they finally are able to defeat him and destroy the mask of ultimate power… potentially at the cost of their lives/powers. If that happens, then the villagers would carry on their lives in their image, with them serving as figures of myth or as village leaders. However, a new/ancient and forgotten evil could arise, and new Toa would have to step up and save the land.
Just my hope/ speculation.

Well changing up things just a bit I’m gonna give my very brief opinion on every Toa of the year:

Tahu: Iron man
Lewa: helicopter man
Gali: lil gurl with a toy wand
Pohatu: Mad Mask (get it)
Onua: Expensive sports car
Kopaka: Eye see you

Joking aside, I will actually put more thought into each one of them when I have more time. Also Kopaka drawing almost done

All right, I’ll compare the rest of the Toa too…I feel like doing it.

Tahu:

Build: Uniter T. No doubt. Master T was a decent build…but I feel Uniter T will be better.
Style: This is a difficult one…on the one hand, Master T had an interesting concept…on the other hand, Uniter T…is all over the place…if I were to choose between the two, Uniter T. I have no reasons to give. Both suffer from trying to do too much IMO.
Weapons: I have to say that Master T’s swords were cooler than the new T’s claw swords…which also aren’t bad.
Colour: Uniter T. I like the blue accents…but I don’t think either is particularly good in this area.
Mask: Uniter T without a doubt. It just looks so much better!
Winner UT 4, MT 1

Gali:

Build: I think Uniter G will be more complex than her Master variant, considering she will now be asymmetrical.
Style: Uniter G. Orange, dark blue transparent shells. Finally, more colours for her.
Colours: See above.
Weapon: Master Gali. It’s really self explanatory.
Mask: Master Gali. I don’t dislike this new mask at all, on the contrary, I like it quite a bit…but MG’s mask is just better.
Winner: UG 3, MG 2

Lewa:

Build: Uniter L looks like he’ll be a fun one to build, despite some of the design short-comings.
Style: Uniter L does it somewhat better than Master L, but suffers in other areas.
Colour: Master L. This one is just obvious.
Mask: Uniter L. Absolutely.
Weapon: Master L without a doubt.
Winner: UL 3, ML 2.

Onua:
Build This one is still up in the air…but Master O was pretty fun to build!
Style I prefer Uniter O’s style…I like the trans-purple and that there is generally more of it on him.
Mask Uniter O. Without a doubt. It’s just better all around.
Weapon Tie.
Colours Also a tie.
Winner Uniter O takes it by a very slight margin.

Kopaka: Uniter Kopaka. He wins. That’s it.

(I think you might mean “MG” for that second one there…)

Always great to see more comparisons! Seriously, I don’t know why I like comparisons so much but I really do. So thanks for helping me indulge!

OK since some people were talking about the runes, I think they are runes of power, each one providing a certain element or aspect. The nuva symbols represent their special element, Umarak’s represents poison or something, Ekimu’s mask has a bunch of runes, which is what makes it such a powerful mask. Sorta like which kanoka disks go into making each mask from G1

Seeing as I’m doing Kopaka tomorrow, I would really like to see the reasoning for this one.

Haha ok fine.

Uniter K v. Master K.
Build: Master Kopaka remains my favourite build of the 2015 Toa. It’s inexplicable, but I have almost memorized how he’s built, ever since I first built him. However, I feel that Uniter Kopaka will offer even more than Master Kopaka. Moveable shoulders, custom built torso, his weapons sure will be fun to build. I will actually say Uniter K wins this one.
Style: I like both Kopaka styles, I think they fit the character in different ways…but in this case, I prefer one over the other. Master K had all that gold up on top, the extra bulk in his shins making it look like he had ski boots on, a spear, and a shield…which I think is impractical. It’s just got too many holes…and let’s face it, they’re Tahu’s swords integrated in a slightly different way. Uniter K though…wow…I love his design. I’ve mentioned this before…but he looks even more like a knight now than Master K did. Reasons? Master K is based off of a Hoplite design. He has the typical spear, and the large shield. He belongs in a phalanx formation Greek army. This one though, this is more what I like. He is light on his feet, the sleekness of the vorox armour protecting his shoulders. The leg armour is placed perfectly, with the addition of the golden-trans blue crystal piece, the cherry on top. Although I admit the colour does seem random on Uniter K, its purpose is solely there for the Unity mode, which then makes way more sense. I’ll forgive it because they’re lovely pieces. His arms are skinny, but it they are suddenly covered by these large metru blue bracers, which also fits with the blue and white theme he’s going for this time around. Need I mention his amazingly cool sword? It’s no giant shield, but it’s a giant Anduril-like sword which a kingly-figure should wield. Lastly, that mask, with the stud scope. Brilliant. I like both Ks, but Uniter K takes it.
Colour: I already mentioned it. Uniter K for the win.
Weapons: Yes, the stud shooter makes zero sense with the theme Uniter K is going for…but it doesn’t have to. This is a different world, where these characters aren’t bound by different historical periods…and have powers. That said, Uniter K’s weapons are waaaay better than Master K’s weapons. That’s my opinion, but I love this figure and cannot wait to get him. Plus, the stud shooter is exciting and gives him even more playability!
Mask: Sorry Master K. Uniter K takes it again.
Winner: So much yes for Uniter K. I love Master K, but this one is even cooler…might pose them both together and then Kopaka’s dream of having ‘warriors like him’ will become a reality! :stuck_out_tongue:

Oh also, LEGO server images for new sets have been coming out these last few days! So we may get ‘official’ pics of the sets pretty soon!

I pretty much disagree with this as all the others have normal color schemes that don’t seem to require any creatures to make it better. Also, that blue is incredibly annoying and adding 2 large metru blue pieces just because the torso has metru blue printing is not a good excuse.

I’m pretty sure the printing is there to go with the Metru blue pieces, like Tahu’s Azure.
It’s simply a contrast color to make the appearance more varied.

LEWA has a… gasp … a … NECK?!?

Ekimu is the Protector of re-posturing, evidently.

Haha apparently he does, but honestly the 2015 version (as mentioned earlier in this thread) no neck issue can be solved by just moving the gearbox one module down and placing his back armor one space up. However at least the 2016 Uniter doesn’t need any modding!! Anyway Kopaka is almost done

Yeah, i shouldn’t be complaining - I always modify my sets, such as I most DEFINITELY will with Uniter Pohatu’s weapons. shudders

Well, now he can “Windfly” properly…
–Still bugs me the Metru-Blue position on Kopaka, but at least we’re getting Metru-Blue Shells in CCBS

Yeah… I can’t stand Kopaka’s Color distribution either. It seems like a huge mess.

Wait, Metru blue? Please tell me it at least appears on Gali…

Seems that only Kopaka has them… and only 2, I think, and some pieces on the torso build, but no shells on the torso to be seen.

Aw rats! Well I guess having only an assortment of lighter colors fits with Gali’s new “Coral/Tropical” feeling color scheme. What do you guys think?
