BIONICLE: Arachnid Terror

Hey y’all, Ghid here. I’m hosting this topic on behalf of @ajtazt, who currently doesn’t have the Master rank and is therefore unable to host it on his own. I have no involvement with the contest itself and will subsequently not be participating to avoid any potential complications.

BIONICLE: Arachnid Terror

On this dual anniversary year, I have one question for all you Bionicle fans out there. Which spider horde do you like more – the Visorak or the Skull Spiders? The twenty-year-old spinners or the ten-year-old face huggers? The mutating life stealers or the mind controlling necromancers? We could settle with simple poll but where’s the fun in that? Let’s settle this the good ol’ fashion way – a faction war!

For this contest, you must build something to show the might of the Visorak or the Skull Spiders. You are NOT limited to one faction, nor are you limited to a single entry. You can build for both and submit as many entries as you desire. However, whichever faction has the most entries wins the war and determines the prize pool for the winners. Specifics for each faction are below.

Visorak: If building for the Visorak, build something that has been mutated by their venom. Be that Rahi or characters never seen with a Hordika form, a Self-MOC, mutated revamp of another MOC, or even something completely unrelated to Bionicle like a Hordika Superman or Darth Vader. Whatever you subject to Visorak Venom, you must show or link an image of the normal version, and the Rhotuka Launcher and Spinner are required.

Skull Spider: If building for the Skull Spiders, build something that is being controlled by the spiders. Be it an animal, Toa, a new skeleton villain, vehicle, or something else. Whatever it is, it must include the Skull Spider mask on the head/control unit of the MOC.

So, to which horde will you bend the knee? To a king or a lord?

Rules:

  • Entries must be 100% genuine Lego. This is a Lego purist competition.
    • No unofficial parts, knockoffs, third-party reproductions, etc.
    • No part modifications (painting, cutting, gluing, print removal etc.) unless it’s within official instructions for specific parts. Such as cutting flex tube to official lengths or adding stickers.
  • No Lego part limitation or percentage requirements.
    • As far as this contest is concerned, Lego Constraction is any build that is designed to be a constructable action figure. Whether this is achieved with dedicated constraction parts (Bionicle, CCBS) or through System, like the recent Superhero Construction Figure sets, does not matter. That said, this is still a Bionicle-themed constraction contest and will be biased towards builds using Bionicle/CCBS parts.
  • Physical and digital entries are allowed.
    • Digital entries must provide the build file to verify stability.
  • Entries must include:
    • Visorak: Rhotuka Launcher (block and rod) and Spinner. The ripcord is not required but including it in the MOC can earn more points. If going the Hordika route, please include a link/reference image to the non-mutated version.
    • Skull Spider: The Skull Spider mask. The claws/leg pieces and G2 head are not required.
    • Both: If you do not have the required parts, either physically or unable to find a digital version, you will not be immediately disqualified if you can show or describe where those parts would otherwise be on the MOC. Failure to do so will result in the MOC being disqualified.
  • Builders can submit entries for both factions. However, unless otherwise specified, their first entry will be considered their main allegiance.
  • Unlimited Entries – builders can submit as many entries as they want for whichever faction they desire. If a builder does not specify which is their primary entry, whatever creation submitted in their main allegiance that has the highest score will be the one considered for prizes.
  • If going for the collab bonus points, please indicate what collab it is for and the other members in the description. For it to qualify, all members of the collab must submit their entries within a 36-hour period. The timer starts with the first submitter.
  • All entries must be new builds created for this contest. Old MOCs cannot be entered.
  • This contest will run from the time of posting until Eastern Daylight Time (EDT) 12:00 AM (midnight) on October 30th. Any entries posted after this time will not be considered.
    • Results will be posted on Halloween day, October 31st.
  • All entries should be submitted to the Flickr group.

Judgment:

The following are the categories/considerations for each MOC and scoring them. Each category goes up to a max of 5 points. However, some have subcategories that can earn an additional single point per subcategory.

  • Construction – How well the MOC is built; stability, functionality, posability, etc.
    • Ingenuity – Interesting or unique parts usage.
    • Engineer – Includes a custom or interesting function of some kind.
  • Aesthetics – The cohesion of the build based on its color scheme, textures, styling, etc.
    • Appropriate Attire – Shares/has the look of the setting they exist in.
  • Creativity – The ideas and concepts behind the MOC and generally how interesting it is.
  • Presentation – How it’s presented, the pose, lighting, photocomposition, etc.
    • Storyteller – Includes fun flavor text/lore, like their build’s Rhotuka power or a story of some kind, like how the Skull Spider took over.
    • Commentator – A good/insightful description of the design process for their build.

Faction Bonus Points: These are extra points that can be earned on top of your main MOC entry for supporting your chosen faction(s). Some of these stack while others will be locked out depending on the route you choose.
