BIONICLE Canon Contest #1: The First, Part 2 (Art) - By DSS-ForgeMasterCreations The “Kanohi Whakaaro”

Hey guys, this is my submission for the art portion of the
Toa Helryx canonization contest.

Due to possibly not looking over the rules closely enough and me rushing to post my entry at 5AM my time, my first post on the matter got disqualified.
After much help from @Mesonak for clarification on the rules I pretty much rushed to complete an art sketch for my build, I know it probably pales in comparison to the other entries, but as I spent the better part of my circuit breaker experience making it
I couldn’t just let this go to waste, so that is the explanation for what you see before you.

Now for the mask itself, I tried to go for something that looks somewhat organic without veering to far to the side of the Toa Inika’s organic masks, as well as something that befits a Toa of water along with what looks closest to what a Mask of Psycometry might look like.

The actual model of the Mask looks slightly better than the one pictured here as I had to lower the model’s resolution so that Stud.io would recognize it as a part.

With that I posit a name for the mask, The “Kanohi Whakaaro”, derived from the Maori word for mind, I’m open to suggestions for an alternative name if you guys have any but if not I’ll stick with this.

Here below are the links to my Mask on Thingiverse, as for Shapeways I’m still trying to figure out how to get it working.

And below is the links to the model that I based this art off of just in case anyone wants to look over how I built it, and my own custom Stud.io parts so that anyone that views the model won’t see the mask as blank.

To think you only did that in just a few hours is wild to me. That looks really cool, and I love how you were able to translate your mask design into a 2D artwork form. The strong black outlines on your model also help accentuate it and give it a unique visual style. Thanks very much for entering this!

Thank you for the kind words, I’m still a very below beginner level aspiring artist so I not sure if this would be considered “good” but I’m still somewhat proud of how it turened out. :+1:

I really love this artwork! The heavy black lines make for a really unique look and the style almost feels like it’s an ancient cave painting which makes sense seeing as shes the first toa. I also really love the mask, I looks like some kind of sea creature from the deeps jumped out of the ocean and turned it self into a mask. And all the smaller details like the teeth/ gills around the mouth or the way the fins on the side split off into two make it feel like the great beings fashioned it after whatever sea creatures where around before her. It feels very elegant yet somewhat eerie, very fitting seeing as takanuva mistook her for a makuta. I like it a lot, good luck!

I mean, it’s still better than anything I could’ve drawn. My only real critique would be the lack of a background, although I get if you didn’t have enough time; I’d love to see a version of this with some background scenery, if that’s something you like drawing later on. Nice work.

Thank you for the feedback @ninseth, I did have the thought to make it related to the ocean cross my mind multiple times while I was making the mask.
I also tried to design some aspect of psycometry on it in the form of “Holes” on the forehead, as you can see, it doesn’t look anything like the power so as such I might try another rendition of this whenever I have the time in future.

Thank you for the feedback @Racie02,
Indeed it’s because of the rush to get it out,
but I do intend to make a background for this in future, either that or I could possibly try to draw my own rendition of the winning artwork.
