Toa Helryx - Canon Contest #1: The First Lego Creations

Her armor pitted and scarred from a thousand battles, Toa Helryx leads the Order of Mata Nui in the war against the Brotherhood of Makuta. [image] Here’s my entry for the contest to determine the canon appearance of Toa Helryx. She was described by Greg as having pitted and scarred armor and a frail appearance due to all that she’s been through. I decided to portray this by having her armor clearly worn and aged, with asymmetry where pieces are missing or have been replaced - the color texture of some Knights Kingdom armor pieces, in particular, I found helped to sell this effect. Toa Helryx Entry for Bionicle Canon Contest #1: The First Lego Creations

[HelryxFront] I based my entry on the idea that Helryx was a prototype for the Toa Mata, and therefore a little similar, as suggested by Greg Farshtey, while being weird enough to put Takanuva in mind of the Makuta. She’s an old girl with weird proportions, and wave motifs inspired by Hahli’s appearance in the Mask of Light movie. Helryx’s mask is of course the 3D model provided by KhingK [HelryxSide] I used a mix of older and newer parts, notably the tube and half the torso from the Scuba throwbot, in homage to Bionicle’s roots. [HelryxBack] She features Pohatu’s leg function, so she can march into battle. Toa Helryx (Canon contest the first) Lego Creations

Here’s my entry. Phew. I had this done for a week and waited till the last minute to submit-not worth the stress! I decided to not make her skinny as the armour she wears bulks her out and is there to protect her, also I think she could be frail in the sense that she uses her mace as crutch at times or hobbles a bit, maybe. I decided to go with Greek inspired greaves for leg armour but I only had one silver piece so please ignore the mismatch-the tan is not intended. With the colour scheme I tried to show how the Silver is on top of the blue original surface. I decided to make the mace and shield dark to contrast a tad, but honestly there have been better shields/maces and I would probably let those be canon-then again maybe Helryx goes through a lot of equipment! I hope you like my buil…

Helryx, Leader of the Order of Mata Nui [Canon Contest #1: The First] Lego Creations

Helryx, the first toa, and the leader of the Order of Mata-Nui. I always imagined her as a tough, armored warrior, who stands tall and makes the hard choices. The biggest offense to the source material is probably her color scheme, but I feel like the white and orange really brings out the intensity of her personality. [20200622_172203] [20200622_172222] [20200622_180013] For her weapons, I went with a flanged mace to shake things up a little. It still has spikes, so I think it counts. The shield was something I struggled with, because I wanted it to be big and solid, but she still needed to actually be able to hold and pose with it. Helryx the First (Canon Contest #1: The First) - Poor Disadvantaged Lego Creations

[Helryx2Edited] Helryx had several, perhaps contradictory, characteristics that supplied lots of ideas to work with: Formidable yet vulnerable, she’s one of the most powerful Toa, who rejects a Toa’s greatest power. I pretty much aimed for what I wish (as I often do) Helryx could’ve looked like: someone who’s imposing, battle-worn, elegant/regal and sinister all at once! [HelryxMain1Edited] [HelryxSide][HelryxBack] The scratched/spiked Knights Kingdom pauldrons and the layers of cloth were both integral for this build, as they supported all the aspects I was going for. I made her especially thin and skeletal around the limbs, ribcage, waist and feet (originally used on Construction Deva’s Helryx), and attempted to emulate bandages with tires.
