BIONICLE is Officially Cancelled

Well, I can’t say almost anything that hasn’t been said. Just, farewell BIONICLE.

Also, apparently some are doing a ‪#‎MasklessforBionicle‬ thing in Facebook.

Guess I’m not joining in.

Let’s have a toast to that.

After Seeing Meso’s tweet I realize the upset we’re going to have as a community. I think we’ll be able to strive and make cool things, but we’re going back into the dark ages. Let celebrate what G2 has done for us and remember it as a reboot that gave us a new universe and great sets.

Its the reboot that gave us the Mask of Creation, and boy was that worth it.

I can toast to this too, even though I’m not a mod but I agree.

You don’t know pain until you have to moderate that topic.

it was painful enough when I was just looking at it.

I can imagine your pain.

I guess I’ll give my thoughts here.

Bionicle’s end doesn’t really make me mad, nor does it make me sad all that much. We’ve grown since the first end and now rebooting. With that said, I think we will all be alright now that we are together and smarter about this event. On top of that, the Lego group acknowledged our massive support. They gave a formal message to all, and we were all prepared for this one way or another.

Bionicle’s return over these past years has in retrospect done just as much to effect my life as Gen 1 did, now that I look back. It certainly helped me find new common ground with friends, and it helped boost my confidence going into my first year of college. I now proudly introduce myself as a Lego maniac right off the bat these days. For all the criticism that’s been and is bound to come for Gen 2, I honestly can’t complain about anything.

So after all of that, big celebration for the awesomeness that was Bionicle Gen 2. Here’s to a bright future as a community.

As to everyone who says that there should be a BIONICLE G3, I doubt it. Like I said before, BIONICLE helped widespread the use of an online presence, most of which is now common practice, not to mention it didn’t have much competition (there was only Star Wars).

If LEGO were to bring a G3 (which I sincerely doubt because that’s kinda stretching it) they would have to really improve the formula and make it unique. I think part of why G2 failed was because it was just a common run-of-the-mill theme that played it too safe.

Don’t call me a downer or a pessimist because I don’t think a G3 is coming.

When you are the most realistic around here but people call you pessimistic. Meh, okey.

Being realistic is being pessimistic in Bionicle.

Gen 2 was good whilst it lasted, and personally, I’m sad to see it go. It had a good run, and to quote Kahi, “the sets were Stella”.

But in Bionicle cancelling, Lego now have the opportunity to create something entirely new…bionicle gen 2 could well be similar to the role roboriders and throwbots played in making gen 1 happen. Gen 2 could be a catalyst for the next ninjago or something else great…the future is very bright

Wow if they do give us a makuta set I’d buy it for now I’m entering the makuta building contest as a show of respect for the line.

But it’s time for us the community to make our own stories, our own heros and villains, and keep this franchise alive

“That is the way of the Bionicle”

I’m mildly dissapointed, it’s not quite the soul crushing of g1,

I suppose I just want a replacement that is good enough, not even necessarily constraction, perhaps a spiritual successor to bionicle and exo-force.

Whatever constraction is released in the future, if the parts are good, and the build is good, I’m most likely to get them, I found that even with g2 parts I mostly mocced g1, so I doubt that will change.

I do wish we had gotten that makuta set though…
Was rather looking forward to it.

I wanted sometime to process my thoughts and didn’t my heart to rule my head before making this post. Yes I’m massively disappointed that it’s ending, but more so that we won’t even get the Makuta set or the MOUP that the designer video seemed to tease. We have no real closure of the line ending. At least G1 had the Stars, which weren’t brilliant but added some finality to the line.

That being said, I feel privileged we even got a G2 at all. We got two of the best years of sets and my two favorite incarnations of Toa to date. I think what leaves me feeling so bitter is the fact that the sets were so good! They only seemed to be getting better too, and it’s such a shame not to see it reach it’s full potential.

I’m hoping we get some sort of replacement and that Constraction/CCBS isn’t completely done for. Seems like only yesterday that we were all happy for it’s return.

For those that have grieved before over something or someone, we all know how this rigmarole works. At first it’s hard to focus on anything but the absence, but in time you just remember the fond things and are happy to have been a part in it, despite how long or little it’s been in your life for.

So thanks G2, you were awesome!

You know It is still harsh how they just ditched the theme in one day. In Gen 1 we still got a half year after the offical cancel statement. Even hero factory had one more plus year in 2014 even if that year failed but it still happened. Now I guess Lego has become impatient and they just want to get rid of the theme which doesn’t gain them as much profit as they expected, as soon as possible.

No, i’m pretty sure they announced it up front to save us the anxiety of waiting after the conclusion of JTO. That shows that they at least care enough to say goodbye and thank you

In all fairness we don’t know how bad BIONICLE was doing. It can’t have been doing great for them to not even run it’s final year.
