Cordak the Last Makuta's Magnificent Kronkiwongis

so, he’s turret form nidhiki?
that can turn into an oddly disjointed dragon, thing.

it’s not that I think it’s horrible, but this is not my favorite,
granted I actually like the smoothness of CCBS and dislike the bayformer aesthetic, so maybe I’m not the best judge.

I think you need to work on making armour plating look more solid, and also maybe stop basing these on the above aesthetic, as it leads to clustered, messy colored mocs.
I’m not against detailing, but over-detailing seems to be a common problem for you.

@Payinku
Yeah…I can see where you’re coming from. Not going to lie, as much as I hate the Bayformers movies as a whole, I have a thing for the ultra-detailed aesthetics, particularly when it comes to building Bioformers. Guess that’s why I liked that Lego Cuusoo Exo-Suit set so much. I do understand that it’s not for everyone, though. The detailing’s toned down a bit on the smaller figures (though, admittedly, not all of them). Also, just saying, Nidhiki’s way more of a turret than this guy. I mean, at least Venak’s legs have knees…

Alright, I’m back, with more MOCs to present. Yes, I know this is a double post, but I’d really, really, really appreciate it if the mods let it slide, considering the last post is more than a week old. Anyways, I’ll continue with two Toa-sized MOCs this week, fellow members of Cordak’s Shadow Hunters.

-Name: Taalos

-Backstory: Taalos was the latest edition to the Shadow Hunters, joining not to long after the teams exodus from the Mata Nui robot following Teridax’s death. A hardened fire Glatorian, Taalos was exiled to the wastes during a shortage of resources long before the arrival of the Skrall. Making a life for himself in the desert, Taalos founded the business deal for escorting trade convoys between villages, suppressing his resentment for the Agori in favor of survival. However, a particularly ferocious Bone Hunter raid struck his convoy one day, resulting in the Agori fleeing and Taalos barely escaping alive, losing his right hand in the skirmish. His reputation tainted, Taalos’ services lost favor to newer wanderers such as Gelu, leaving him with little choice but to raid caravans he once stood to protect. Years later, following the reformation of Spherus Magna, Cordak came across the Glatorian as the Hunters were making camp in one of the newly formed jungles. Taking him in as a new recruit, Taalos rose quickly amongst the ranks, becoming first lieutenant to his leader. With more technologically advanced resources at their disposal, Taalos took the liberty of replacing his missing hand with a buzz-saw, and armed himself with a simple blaster and experimental alt-form. He became quite infatuated with the mysterious tech of the Matoran universe, and has taken the liberty of studying in it vigorously, going as far as to ditching his old Glatorian helmet in favor of goggles designed to be able to toggle through all seven types of electromagnetic waves for vision. Despite all he has experienced, Taalos still believes in a code of honor to those that deserve it, and it is this honor and trustworthiness that has caught Cordak’s particular favor over his more-treacherous compatriots. Taalos intends to honor this faith, though, if the time comes that his allies may betray him, he will hold no qualms to turn his weapons on them.

-Name: Terrotron

-Backstory: Terrotron is probably the most distant and alien of the Shadow Hunters’ members. Though he is one of the older members, even his fellow companions don’t know much of the being’s history. All that is known his that his anatomy is entirely robotic, and that he hails from a world far from the trinity of Magna planets. All Terrotron as agreed to share on the matter is that he hailed from a world dominated by civil war between two powerful factions, locked in an eternal stalemate over dwindling resources. Failing a vital raid for his leader, Terrotron was exiled from the planet and wandered the cosmos for an unknown number of years before detecting the Mata Nui robot on Aqua Magna, and found is way in through disclosed means. While Terrotron stands to one of the colder and more ruthless members of the Shadow Hunters, he has no interests in seizing the next rank for himself, earning him the title of Lieutenant for many years from Taalos later took his place. Terrotron’s only goals in life are to conquer all there is to conquer, and is willing to serve under anyone to achieve it. His loyalty is normally rigid, though he isn’t known for putting his life on the line in foolish missions, nor will he go out of his way to rescue a teammate trapped in his own predicament. To match his sharp wit and cold nature, his weapons of choice are twin blades crafted from an unknown, but incomprehensibly durable, metal, and is, in fact, the only Hunter capable of transforming naturally, and is the one who supplied the technology to begin with. He may not be the kind to betray you, but he isn’t one to be trusted to watch your back.

Alright then. I’ve been having a few issues with that as of late, so I wanted to make sure I wasn’t undermining the rules again or anything.

Alright, I suppose I can review these somewhat. I’m not really the best at reviews, but whatever.

Taalos. I like him. A lot. His color scheme is fairly consistant save for a couple blue pins. Some could complain about the gold shin armor being the only gold, I don’t mind it. Some could have issue with the yellow bits with the saw arm, I thought of it like the newer sets telling you it functions and I don’t think the yellow stands out that much. It is interesting that other than red pins the only mata red pieces are the upper arm armor. if you have them I would suggest trans orange. Also the upper arm seems a bit lacking in back armor and it looks rather thin. I would suggest something like the Metru red metru leg armor there, it might beef it up a tad and it shouldn’t get in the way of transforming (I think, Idk for sure) The HF mask on the back of his head looks slightly odd to me, but Idk why or how to fix it. The transforming looks like it works great and I really like how both the robot and truck modes look, so great job there. All in all I’d rate him an 8.5/10.

Terrotron. I like this guy as well, tho not as much as Taalos. I like the color scheme, but while it’s just an accent color on the rest of him, the Metru green is suddenly quite prominent on his forearms. In robot mode this contrasts a bit much for me as there is almost no metru blue on his arms whereas it’s the main color for the rest of the MoC. In Jet mode it looks just fine tho imo. Other than that, there a couple forgivable blue pins (blue is the main color after all), the lightsaber peice on the chest in robot mode looks a little odd, as do the feet. He has pretty nice armor coverage and his Jet mode looks quite cool. All in all, I’d give this guy a 7.5/10

There we go, I just wasted your time with my prattling. I’ll go now…

I probably still have some trans-orange parts lying around somewhere. As for the yellow on his saw arm, they were originally black, but were switched due to parts limitations on another MOC, and the yellow stood out least on Taalos. Thanks for the review.

These are all pretty good! I love the detailed aesthetic and the transformations, though some of the color schemes are a bit messy. Also, I really like how you did Taalos’ goggles.

I really wish that people like you could give me MOCing advice… I really suck at it. My best MOC(I’ll post when I figure out how, I’m new) has a lot of balance problems…

I’d love to, but MOCing’s a bit of a difficult thing to give advise for, given the different types of strategies there are out there. If it’s balance problems you’re having, incorporating the piston pieces is always a good idea, as well as thickening the legs with multiple limb pieces. If the problem is that the legs are flopping around on the torso, try contenting shifting limbs on the top back of the legs, connecting to the bottom of the torso. You could probably get some good inspiration looking through Tuma and Toa Mata Nui’s instructions and see how they pulled it off. As for posting pictures, you’re better off uploading it elsewhere, like imgur.com or on Google+ and posting its url here.

I already have the pistons in his legs, and I’ve even used friction joints, but they just aren’t sturdy. As for the uploading, I don’t know how to do links either…

It’s easy. Just right click on the image once it’s posted, select the Copy Image URL option, and paste it in your post. As for the MOC, I guess your other option is connecting limb pieces from the top of the back of the legs to the bottom of the torso. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, I can post some examples from my MOCs and Tuma.

Please do. I need help. Looking at MOcs like yours discourages me sometimes…

Believe me, I know how that feels. I used to look up Bionicle MOCs on Google for inspiration, and ended up being a bit put-out by the large, hyper-detailed MOCs out there. Heck, I sometimes get the feeling looking over MOCs here, like Likus’ Muaka revamp or the life-sized dinosaur made by the similarly-named Artakha.

I’ll probably look into posting my self MOC tomorrow. Be sure to check it out and give me tips, as you have earned my respect!

Here’s some shots of those limbs I was talking about that connect from the legs to the torso:

Tuma (Sorry, he’s a bit dusty; said dust is probably why he’s almost unnaturally stable)

Alright, I finally have everything together, so we’ll have a nice triple feature for today. Well, technically quintuple, once I get the other two guys up, but I’m sure you all get the idea. The three Matoran MOCs range from decent to fairly standard. I hope to get the other two Toa up later this week, and another two for the weekend. Now that I have a three-day-weekend, and am free from another trip to Orlando (long story), I hope to get this taken care of.

-Name: Scorax

-Background: One of the founding members of the Shadow Hunters, Scorax stands as one of least battle-focused of the Hunters, putting more focus in the art of hacking, infiltrating, and crafting tools for his compatriots out of scrap. His loyalty for Cordak is the strongest of his comrades, being a friend of his in the days long before the Hunters came to be. Long ago, he was but a simple Ta-Matoran, sent to Karazahni when he exhibited an inability to attach to Kanohi. Unfortunately, like anyone sent there, the poor Matoran found his defect worsened. Not only was he forced to don a specialized breather to substitute as a Kanohi, but his arms were lengthened considerably. Forced to wander the wasteland, without friends and without hope, it wasn’t long before he degraded into an emotionless, lifeless shell. It wasn’t until the arrival of mysterious cloaked figure named Destrolax, who came to seek council with the realm’s ruler, did a spark emerge. A fierce battle ensued when Karazahni refused to allow his departure, resulting in the proud elder to be beaten within an inch of his ancient life. Entranced by his will and determination, Scorax followed the warrior into the barren Southern Continent, and requested that he accompany him as lifelong servant, to which Destrolax agreed. Togther, they traveled the universe, and battling Dark Hunters and other scum as they went along, until their interventions brought them face to face with the Brotherhood. Taken to Teridax, they were offered a chance to join a specialized team of hunters. Scorax found the prospect intriguing, but left Destrolax to make the decision with the master of shadows. Hours later, the two departed the chamber, with Destrolax bearing a peculiar new helmet an insistence to be called Cordak. Scorax never knew what caused this strange ■■■■■, but to this very day, he sees no reason to care. Armed with a new scorpion alt form and wrist blades, he had every intention to carry out the wishes of the being that helped him hope again.

-Name: Boran

-Backstory: Unbeknownst to many, there was a time, long ago, that there existed two genders of Ga-Matoran. Unfortunately, much like the single Toa of the Psionics element, this iteration was ill-willed, and particularly aggressive, so much so that many members of the order of Mata Nui felt it was better to eradicate the males, lest their savagery prove destructive in a conflict. Helryx, however, fought to preserve the race, and chose to personally instruct the Matoran on how to form mental shields akin to members of the Order, used to isolate their aggression into the farthest recessions of their mind, and had all the Matoran contained in Metru Nui. For centuries this strategy proved effective, until disputes in trade sparked the legendary Matoran Civil War. Siding with their sisters alongside the Ta and Onu-Matoran, and managed to maintain their composure in the war’s earlier days. Boran was among their number, working as a captain of his own battalion alongside close-colleague Blastex. However, as the war waged on, more and more of the male Ga-Matoran began to mysteriously go insane, erratically charging into the enemy and their own comrades like crazed barbarians, driving their numbers to dreadful lows. Boran and Blastex managed to avoid this descent for some time, until one fateful night, as the led a small task force to flank and ambush a Le-Matoran battalion guarding the foot of the Coliseum. The force managed to pass the first wave undetected as Ta-Matoran forces led a frontal assault, but suddenly, they found themselves under disk-fire, on all sides. As Ga-Matoran fell left and right, Boran noted a significant detail: any disks fired back were knocked aside by enemy fire. These were Ta-Metru disks. Consumed with rage, the mental shield that had held back his barbaric lunacy all these millenniums finally fell apart, and Boron charged at the supposed traitors, brutally slaughtering any Matoran in his path. By the dawn’s light, Blastex had managed to detain Boron in the Coliseum, as bodies of Ga-Matoran and Po-Matoran armed with Ta-Metruan launchers lied across the streets. As Blastex deliberated with the present generals, Boron sat in a long, makeshift cell, his wrists chained and his legs footless, crushed by a falling building as Blastex tried to bring him down. Suddenly, an purple-and-black portal opened before him, swirling…foreboding…but simultaneously beckoning. A shadowy claw grasped from the void, and yanked Boron with it. The Matoran soon found himself in a massive hall, surrounded be towering armored figures he recognized as Makuta. It was that day that Boron found himself enlisted into the service of the Brotherhood of the Makuta, viewed as a unique case for his mental state. After preforming brief studies on his mental state, Boran was left to serve as one of their Matoran agents, though they abstained from converting him into a Shadow Matoran, as even they feared what it could bring. Many years later, after the fall of Mata Nui, Teridax began to craft the Shadow Hunters, and gave Boron an opportunity to put his new-found insanity to even greater use. Replacing his feet with wheels that complemented his alt form, he also took on a secondary, aerial form form better combat adaptability, at the cost of greater mental stress. But in the midst of embraced insanity, what need had he more a clear mind. To this day, he still hauls around his old blades, also retrieved by Teridax. He never knew what become of his old comrades, and he doesn’t care. The killing’s become too much fun.

-Name: Blastex

-Background: Like Boran, Blastex was of a rare breed of male Ga-Matoran, infamous for savagery but trained in balance by Toa Helryx. When the catastrophe of the Matoran Civil War struck, Blastex managed to maintain his own mental focus, almost unnaturally better than any of his brothers. When the assault on the Coliseum brought upon Boron’s descent into madness, Blastex was the most pragmatic in bringing him down, briefly dueling with him before using several well-aimed weakness Kanoka on a nearby building to bring it down, crushing Boron’s feet as he tried to escape. Once he was imprisoned in the Coliseum, Blastex gathered the other generals that had participated in the assault to decide what to do with the captured Le and Po-Matoran, and, more importantly, Boron. Heading down to the cell to question him, the Matoran found themselves face-to-face with a towering, golden creature. Blastex ordered the others away, and opted to confront it alone. The creature spoke in a calm voice, identifying itself simply as Botar, coming to take Boron to a place he referred to as the Pit for his heinous crimes. Blastex made a point of not intending to allow this, but suddenly both heard noises arising from deep down the corridor, and by the time they reached Boran’s cell, a shadow portal had already closed. Angered at this, he deemed Blastex guilty of interfering with his duty, to which Blastex mad a promise, to go to whatever means to find Boron himself and bring him to justice. Botar was intrigued, and in a flash, the two arrived onto Daxia, before Toa Helryx. Blastex relayed his story and deal to the ancient Toa of Water, who was equally intrigued, as well as disheartened by hearing how badly things had gotten in Metru Nui, Impressed by the mental discipline he had displayed, Helryx accepted Blastex into the Order of Mata Nui. It didn’t take long for the Civil War to end afterwards, with most male Ga-Matoran killed in battle. When the Order enacted the time lapses to relocate many of the Av-Matoran in Karda Nui, the Order also decided to also have any surviving male Ga-Matoran, now loons locked in asylums, taken and killed, whilst any knowledge of their existence was erased from the minds of the Matoran. Over the years, Blastex outfitted himself, and became acquainted with, new arm blades, and chose to help test out an experimental copy of the alt-form technology several Order members had seen Shadow Hunters use, taking on the ability of flight. Though Blastex feels a strong sense of justice and moral certainty, he still values Boran as an old friend, and though he does not disclose it with fellow agents, he intends to ensure Boran is brought in alive, and perhaps even saved, before he ever resorts to finishing him off. He isn’t even sure if Boran is aware of the two sides they now sit on, and wonders what will occur when they finally meet again.
