Custom Hordika canister idea

I thought of making a few designs for custom canisters. I really like the dual functions of early canisters and wanted to make a few designs for dual function versions of some sets’ canisters. I thought I could design them, comission somebody to 3D model them, ill print them, slap a label on them and then sell them as sort of display cases on etsy or something for like forty bucks.
For the Hordika it seemed obvious that their canister should be the Visorak cocoon.

Is this a waste of time? Let me know what you think, if you guys like it I may go through with it and make one for the Vahki & their hive charging cells.

This concept is very cool, but it’s given me another idea: What if they were made of rubber?

I’m thinking of something along the lines of the shape you’ve shown above, except made of a flexible (but still fairly stiff) rubber with a seam down the side that opened kind of like this:

(except there’s no zipper, with the rubber simply folding over itself and held shut on store shelves by the label)

Obviously this would be impractical for you to make yourself (or even for Lego to do back in the day), but it would be extremely interactive, and more lore-accurate than an unscrewing canister.

that actually looks genius

There was a megabloks dragon set in the early 2000s, several had rubbery membranes and I lovved that back when I was tiny. However there’s no way I could print that. I also think that a hard canister with a lid on the bottom would feel more Bionicle-like, at least as far as feeling like a set. A neato rubber membrane that tears open would be waaay cooler though, and feel more canon. Thanks for the input, I totally think somebody should do that.

@Rhyla416 Thanks Toa Rhyla!! Good to see you again.

You could do both. Have the main section of the canister rubber, with a thin frame to keep the shape and to give it a plastic base that could be unscrewed to easily remove the figure.

wouldn’t the folding of the rubber eventually cause the lable to fall off?

My thinking is that it would be a sleeve-style label (like on the Mata canisters) that you have to slide off to pry open the rubber.

Yeah totally i want the label to be like the Mata ones. A bit durable, removable.
I would the canister to be plastic, in my version at least.

Actually, it would be interesting to see someone who can sew, making Visorak cocoon from wool
