Of the Chronicles, Tales of the Masks was my favorite

Of Adventures, five-way tie amongst The Darkness Below, Voyage of Fear, Maze of Shadows, Challenge of The Hordika, and Time Trap

Of the Legends, I favored Dark Destiny, Legacy of Evil, Downfall, and Swamp of Secrets.

I just really enjoy worldbuilding stories and supplementary stories

Mine is Downfall.

I like the encylopedia ones that told you about the lore, like Rahi Beasts or the Guide to Metru Nui.

Legacy of Evil. It’s fun, occasionally dark and has many callbacks and references. Also some of my favorite moments in the storyline more or less involving Makuta.

I’d say Rahi Beasts or the Dark Hunters guide, personally.

I’ve always liked Power Play as it’s the novel I read the most as kid because I reading about the Toa Inika discovering and learning how to use their powers and discovering their destiny as these six figures that we’ve known since they were Matoran were now Toa and the protectors of Voya Nui.

Yeah! I got Raid on Vulcanus at a library sale when I was a little kid and read it until the cover fell off, then read it some more. I still have it.

My favorite book was the Legends of Metru Nui book I read back at middle school through high school. Those were the days.

Time Trap.

That’s my favorite too, feels like the bonus level you get for finishing the whole level. Also lets the combo model characters have a moment in the spotlight.

There’s a sort of “law of diminishing villainy” in comics. If a villain shows up too much and gets beaten over and over, they stop being perceived by the reader as a big threat. That’s why I wrote Time Trap the way I did, to open up the idea that Makuta was losing on purpose as a distraction and was actually six moves ahead of the Toa. I felt it made him of a menace to be respected again.

My favorite is The Darkness Below, since it had a very different feel from other Bionicle books (the mysterious building dread, the claustrophobic feeling, etc.). Krahka was a great villain, and Nokama had an impressive moment in the spotlight. Downfall (oddly enough, my first exposure to Bionicle) and Time Trap are definitely up there for me, though.

Your expertise in writing and comics was certainly a big inspiration. “Diminishing villainy” is a great truth and why a lot of stories quickly lose tension nowadays. The villains need to win every once in a while. BIONICLE showed me that especially in 09! (Even though I was a very upset 10 year old when Makuta’s victory happened. Ha.)
