Favorite Things of DC Comics

Who are your top 5 DC characters, in general? What is your favorite DC story arc? Which is your favorite DC universe? Why do you like DC? Do you prefer DC to other comic book brands? >cough< marvel >cough<

Personally my top 5 DC characters are:
Booster Gold
Blue Beetle (Ted)
The Question (Vic)
Vibe
and Deathstroke
In that order.
My favorite story arc is ‘The Greatest Hero You’ve Never Heard of’
My favorite universe is ‘Pre-Crisis on infinite Earths, Earth 4’
I prefer DC because it is what I grew up with; I used to think Marvel was a Spiderman series, and recently I discovered more comic books brands such as ‘Dark Horse’ and ‘IDW’

As i’ve said before, my absolute favorite superhero is Superman

So my list would go a little like this:

1 Superman
2 The Flash (Barry Allen)
3 Deathstroke
4 Red Hood (Jason Todd)
5 Batman

Wouldn’t say I have an absolute favorite story line, but Flashpoint series and the Doomsday arc are pretty good

I haven’t had much involvement with DC except for Justice League - Secret Origins 2001 and Teen Titans 2003-2006, and I haven’t seen either of them for about 10 years now.

Based off of that alone, My top 5, in no particular order, are:
Martian Manhunter
Green Lantern
Cyborg
Raven
Starfire

Secret Origins is my favorite arc, just because it is the only one that I remember, and that might be because it was my fav back when, but who knows.

Favourite Universe

I honestly don’t know. Each one has a few stories that are on my favourites list, so I can’t make a definite decision.

Why I like DC

Because DC executes complex and compelling plot-lines, narrative, and story-arcs exponentially better than a lot of other publishers. Sure, Marvel has some really cool characters, but I more often than not find myself disinterested in the antics they’re involved in.

DC is engaging, interesting, and a whole lot of other positive adjectives. It’s by no means my favourite publisher, but I sure do love the things they churn out.

Top five favorite characters:
Martian Manhunter
Booster Gold
The Question
Nightwing
and last, but not least
The Flash (Wally West and Barry Allen tie)
Now, even though my bio, name, and avatar are all Marvel related, that’s because I grew up reading Spider-Man. I don’t get the war between the two major publishers: They’re both good for different reasons, they’ve had their ups and downs (I’m looking at you mullet Superman) but in the end, they’ve got some darn good characters and stories that I love to see. My favorite storyline has to be the first 20 or so issues of The Flash New 52.

  1. Green lantern (Kyle Rayner)
  2. Atrocitus (Red Lanterns)
  3. Blue Beetle (Ted Kord)
  4. Plastic Man
  5. Fire Storm (Jason and Ronnie)

HE CAN CHANGE MATTER AND DEATH STORM CAN DO IT To PEOPLE! Plus he is played by Robbie Amell in the Flash TV show and he is awesome! So ya… Go DC! 3. Batman
  4. Harley Quinn
  5. Deathstroke

While I’m a big fan of DC, I have to admit I’m more of a Marvel fanboy. They both have great stories so I wouldn’t make much comparisons as to why one is better than the other.

I’ve been reading some DC titles like Teen Titans, Blue Beetle, Phantom Stranger, Threshold. All New 52.

I’ve also took a interest in Superboy Prime. I think his narmy dialogue and general pyschoticness is entertaining.

Also call me necromancer from now on because I just brought this topic back from the dead.

Regardless of the outcome of Superman 2025 Film, the moment of bliss in hearing the local comic book store owner finally get the chance to divulge into deep Superman lore and be relevant among interested onlookers shall be the greatest event unknown to humanity.

As for me, I’ll treasure my Onua Superman Team-Up Comic from elementary school.

The vast majority of my engagement with DC has been with the Birds of Prey, specifically with the Birds of Prey (1999) series. I only read it recently.

Predictably, then, my favorite DC character is the Huntress, though I favor Helena Wayne over Helena Bertinelli. A close second is Barbara Gordon as Oracle. Black Canary is also pretty awesome.

For non-Birds, I think my favorites are Booster Gold and Martian Manhunter. Also Plastic Man. Also Atlee, who I think should get way more press.

My second favorite story arc–and I don’t know if this is even a remotely popular opinion–is probably the Huntress & Power Girl Worlds’ Finest series. It was one of the first ones I read, so I had next to no idea what was going on, but I still found the story fun and compelling (right until it merged with the other Earth-2 stuff and took the focus off those two…). Arguably, my favorite arc is that one miniseries where Booster Gold, Fire, Ice, and… that other guy… are the only ones who remember Maxwell Lord after his demise and subsequent resurrection (I still don’t know how that happened, so plot, I guess?) and race to stop him from doing Evil Stuff.

Weirdly, I generally prefer the characters and world of Marvel over DC, but I think DC’s comics are, for the most part, a lot better when it comes to substantive storytelling. But I’m definitely not a completionist when it comes to lore or story continuity, so I just pick and choose whichever comics catch my interest and leave the rest.

Considering your interest in Huntress, while not your preferred version, what are your thoughts on the No Man’s Land Arc? I remember that story-line being a significant point of talk, especially around Huntress, though only recently I’ve finally pieced together the bits and pieces of interconnecting stories together to get the whole picture.

Perhaps, perhaps not, you have seen the Huntress Duology of Fan-films? I believe the sequel had the famous BatInTheSun Batman Actor. I’ve never really interacted with a Huntress fan before, therefore, forgive my curiosity in this scientific endeavor to gauge your input. :slightly_smiling_face:

I hadn’t even heard of the No Man’s Land arc until you mentioned it. I went and read the beginning of it (I think?), and it seems relatively interesting–I’ll have to read more later, but for right now all I can say is (1) I’ve always liked the tension between Huntress and Batman when it comes up and (2) it doesn’t feature the best Huntress costume. =P

I’ve not seen any fan films. Pretty much all my experience with Huntress has been in Birds of Prey (1999), Worlds’ Finest, the Huntress miniseries, and Batgirl and the Birds of Prey. Interestingly, the last one was pretty much the first DC comic I ever read, and where my enduring enjoyment of Huntress’s character started.

You seem like a more knowledgeable DC fan, so… do you know which version of Huntress is the primary one in the stories I mentioned? Is it Helena Bertinelli in Birds of Prey (1999)? If so, why does she look exactly like Helena Wayne of Earth-2?

Unfortunately, my knowledge of Huntress is limited to her cross-over interactions with other characters. However, I am leaning towards the identity being Helena Bertinelli as that was the Huntress featured in the No Man’s Land arc being released around the same time. As for existing as a look alike…Comic Books my dear fellow. Something something previous decision before reboot into Bertinelli in the later 1980s. :slightly_smiling_face:

To be honest, I am here for Dr. Mid-Nite. (I jest, but the character is quite the underrated gem. Many such cases outside of the typical Batman-centric story.)
