Fire Lord Prototype

I’ve recreated the prototype version of Fire Lord from the preliminary catalog from 2010. It’s almost buildable IRL (two bone pieces do not exist in light gray color and there is no shield piece in flat silver). Link to Bricklink parts list and Stud.io file.

Very nice! The prototype legs look quite a lot better than what was released…

The prototype looks a lot more cohesive as a design

Wish we got a hand on the original set like this prototype… I can see why they switched the hands around, the blaster would be a bit hard to access with those Furno blades.

I’ve actually built this guy physically myself! Far more cohesive and articulated than the final design, don’t know why they didn’t stick with it. Though when I built him I assumed the yellow parts on his feet were recoloured Vahki hips rather than the technic assembly you’ve made

Interesting to note that the EU promotional comic uses this design rather than the final one

Claws and orange thigh armour are the most obvious giveaways

It’s always nice to see more HF posts on here

That would be an awesome recolour.

It might be a recolored Vahki pelvis, but on the images from the catalog the balls that connect shells in size 3 seem to be black, so I went with that technic thingy (although the quality of the scans is rather terrible, so it really could be whatever).

Ah yes, my favorite LEGO robot terrorist

It’s interesting to know we could’ve got as Hero Factory set with articulated fingers, but some things just weren’t meant to be it seems :pensive:

Why did they have to have the best artists for these comics, and not the Invasion from Below ones?? I wish I could get a few of these, they look great.

THIS IS THE COOLEST THING, I’M ABSOLUTELY FLOORED BY THIS

Thank you for doing this the Fire Lord prototype always stuck out in my mind as one that was among the most heavily changed in the final version (for the worse).

This is so neat! I love everything relating to prototype sets. You did a good job!

@TotalMaddness dang I hadn’t realized how hard the Hero Factory comic art went, that’s awesome
