Harvali the Scholar

I guess completing this list is gonna be a bit of a hyperfixation for a little while.

So I wondered who I could do next. The Recorder, Tren Krom, GSB, and the Great Beings would all be interesting, but instead, something in my mind said “G2” and told me to make Harvali. So I did.

Making smaller characters in G2 style poses something of a dilemma. All the humanoid small-scale sets from G2 were the Protectors, who are the elders and leaders of their respective tribes, filling a very similar role to the Turaga did for their respective Matoran in G1. But unlike the Matoran, Okotans are known to age. They grow up and have families, just as the majority of us do, and the Protectors are probably either in their physical prime or just past it, so making any younger Okotans would mean making them generally smaller than the Protectors. In Harvali’s case, I imagine her being a young adult (maybe the equivalent to late 20s to early 30s), so I did that by making custom limbs which give her a lot of color but at the cost of articulated elbows and knees.

She felt a little bare on the back originally, but then I remembered “well, duh, she’s an archeologist and a mountain climber. Let’s give her a backpack,” which I built around a Rahkshi head. I actually do wish it was brown like the handle of her spear, but unfortunately not all those parts come in brown, so red will have to do. Either way, I think it looks great. In addition to her spear, she has some additional tools stored on her backpack for use during her travels: a compass represented by an Inquisitor lightsaber, a dagger, and some rope.

As an archeologist by trade, rather than giving her a standard villager mask (and totally not because the Protector mask still isn’t in Studio, who said that?) I elected to give Harvali the Mask of Translation, which enables the user to translate any writings or markings if they’re clear enough to be legible. Hers is modified with a visor. After all, mountains and ruins can be dangerous, dusty places, and how can she read old texts if she can’t see?

Interesting mask choice, and I like how you armored the torso. I do like the limbs, but I’m not sure they mesh with the G2 aesthetic. I also feel like there’s just a bit too much grey. But it’s still good to see some G2 representation in MOCs!

I’m not crazy about all the grey either, but unfortunately that connector I used doesn’t come in either bright green or yellow. But some of the Protectors had some off-color bones so it’s not the worst thing in the world.
