Hero Factory 2.0 Heroes Revamped

Hi everyone!

In addition to it being the 25th Anniversary of BIONICLE, it is also the 15th Anniversary of the introduction of CCBS with the Ordeal of Fire line of Hero Factory. I revamped each of the 2.0 Hero wave, aiming to keep the sleek, clean design of the 2.0 heroes, while melding in modern design language and some mechanical greebling. Hope you enjoy!

Furno & Evo

Surge & Nex

Stormer & Breez

Quite good! I like that you made slight differences between all of them, but they’re still uniform enough to look like the same team.

I do have to complain about the wide shoulders and strange lower arms, though. I know they were on the original sets, but the wide shoulders make it look like they were pulled apart or are missing pieces. It’s especially visible on Evo and Furno. Strangely, it doesn’t seem as egregious on Breez. As for the lower arms, in Breez’s case, them being unarmored feels too skeletal. Not having anything covering them draws attention to their length, which isn’t exactly idea.

All that said, I still really like these. Glad to see the 2.0 forms get some love, especially with a lot of the original parts! Excellent work, as usual.

@Minethuselah Thank you for the detailed and constructive feedback! I agree that the shoulders are a bit too wide on some of them and can confirm this was a purposeful choice to mimic the slight gap present in the original sets. It is a bit unsightly, but in the case of Furno and Evo, who both have that bulbous wonderful armor shell, it was needed to allow for greater arm movement. I wonder if adding some tires might make it appear less noticeable? You’ve inspired me to do some more tinkering! I agree on Breez, and didn’t realize that in the group shots, I left off the slight arm modification I did whereby I added some tires to her wrists. What I was finding was that her tools scraped against her shells too much when I had them lower, so once again, posing dictated some aesthetic sacrifice. Thanks again for the praise and taking the time to provide such good feedback!

I like how these truly do feel like upgrades, both in scale and in detail. I also agree with Minethuselah about liking the differentiated yet similar builds. I’m not the biggest fan of Breez’s foot or the silver pipes on Furno’s, but that isn’t the biggest deal. The exposed orange ball joints on Nex are also a little strange. Still, these are quite amazing overall; excellent work!

@Zhyndea Thank you for the insightful feedback! Ah, Breez’s feet design looks much better in person, and I will admit that they are pretty nonstandard, but they’re really stable and work much better than the standard 2.0 foot, and even the 1.0 design, as I tried both! Similarly, I tried using red macaroni pieces on Furno’s feet, and didn’t like the look much, either. Save for Stormer, there’s not one that I think couldn’t be refined a little bit, but I think that adds to the charm, in a way. Thanks again for commenting!

nex will always be an ipad kid, love the that detail. second the breez feet, the ‘heels’ don’t really work too well. these feel a little more like Michael bay hero factory than i’d like though.

Dang, I actually like Breez’s feet here. They feel more feminine than what the other molds could’ve offered without being too exaggerated like a Roodaka build or something.

@kawaii_kitten Nex is indeed an iPad kid, good call. I sort of liked the Bayformer designs, to a certain degree, but know they’re not for everyone. @Minethuselah the design was purposefully meant to not be exaggerated, so thanks for noticing!

Once again, your revamps look awesome.

Only thing that bothers me is that the arms seem oddly long, in some pictures it’s not noticeable but in others the length feels almost gorilla like.

@ChubChub86 I do not disagree. I think some of it is the posing, but each arm is at least half a length longer than I wanted. If Lego every makes the 2L axle with stop, I’ll be incredibly thrilled, as it would allow me to shorten up these arms right away. Thanks for the praise!
