Hero Factory: Dropped Calls (Sign ups/Discussion)

Dropped Calls

The surface shook. Alarms blared. The scale readings were erratic. It was almost a planetary-level quake, which should not have been possible in their asteroid belt. Then they heard it.

Hhmmrrooarrrr!!!

The roar of Tearannous Recker. He and his pack of robotic dinosaurs had chosen their belt as the next target for vengeance. Without aid, this sector would be lost. Per standard protocol, the Hero Factory was called to send a team of Heroes, only to be met with this message.

“I’m sorry, the person you are trying to reach is unavailable. Please hang up or try again later.”

Throughout the galaxy, everyone was finding the same thing. The Hero Factory could not be reached. Some could swear they heard a low, quiet, villainous laugh in the message before their calls abruptly ended.

What was going on?

Game Explanation:

Welcome to Hero Factory: Dropped Calls, a short RP (I mean it this time) to help celebrate the up coming Herofebruary and soon-to-be 15th anniversary of the theme’s launch.

It has been an unprecedent time in Hero Factory’s operations. The Hero Hotline has been on fire. Every team and Hero that can be sent out on missions have been sent out. Most of the calls have been false reports and wild goose chases, but the flurry of real sounding issues has been so vast that the fastest vetting system has been to keep sending Heroes. To the point that Heroes only return to the tower for seconds to minutes before leaving again. Now they are so far out that it would take the closest team at least thirty minutes to return. The tower has almost no Heroes inside, except for you.

You all will be playing as rookie Heroes of the Rho 9 Team. The rookies have been forced to stay behind after some series of blunders in this mess of rapid missions. Perhaps for some core recharges, some minor repair, or something else; the exact damage/reason for being left behind while the veterans continued is up to you. But you are all in the tower, trying to relax and recover, waiting for your leader (or mission manager) to send you back out into the field. Only, you realize that everything has gone weirdly quiet. No mission control chatter, not blaring of calls or reporting in, nothing. Perhaps you should go investigate and see what’s going on.

Character Creation:

As stated earlier, your character must be a rookie Hero. No villains, no civilians or HF staff, you can only be a Hero of the Rho 9 Team. I don’t have any names, personalities, etc. of the three veteran members of the Rho 9 Team created yet, so feel free to add whatever details you want about them.

At a minimum, please include the following information about your character.

Name:
Appearance:
Skills and Weapons:
Personality:
Background:

As always, if you wish you can merge the Personality and Background portions.

Your character might be a rookie and not have a lot of Hero experience yet, but you could explain what sort of design the Hero Factory was trying for their model. Anything particular unique when they got their first core charge, things that happened between them, the vets, and their fellow rookies so far. Whatever details you think would be fun to include.

Final Details:

At this time, I am only accepting up to three players. I might be willing to open this up to a max of six players if there’s enough interested. But for now, it will only be three.

We will start on February 1st. I realize that is a short time to draft and submit a character, so I will push back the start until the 4th if necessary. I originally planned to post this sooner, but it’s taking longer for the accompanying MOC to finish than anticipated. Hopefully, we’ll complete the game by the end of February.

Think of each day like one minute of the episode. I realize this is ambitious, so the game will be allowed to run until the end of the year if we haven’t finished. Provided there’s still interest to continue/finish the game. Like I said, I really do mean it when I say this one will truly be short. Though if by year’s end and this still isn’t done, we will close the topic.

As for rules, behavior, etc. I’m sure you all know the drill by now. If there are any questions, concerns, and other comments, please let me know.

My only question (well not my ONLY question, but the one holding me up at the moment) is what kind of standard we’re dealing with regarding weaponry and capabilities. I’m not a Hero Factory nerd, I know next to nothing about the worldbuilding and the like, so a standard of what to expect from a rookie Hero would be appreciated.

Well, BS01 does have a Hero Factory sister site. Here’s the page for the brief rundown, but in general most weapons can fire an energy blast of some sort, also be used for melee, and some other utility option. Most weapons with a more melee focus tend to mention that they can cut through anything, if so desired. General fancy sci-fi weapons that don’t insta-kill anything should do.

The only real examples of rookies we have are Furno, Breez, and Surge in the original launch wave. Their abilities as Heroes is roughly the same as veterans, it’s mostly just a skill and knowledge/experience difference. So depending on their personality, a rookie might be more of a rush in and save everyone type, while a vet would quickly develop and execute a rescue plan.

In the brief flashbacks of Stormer in his rookie days, his weapon was a lot simpler than when he has in his 2010 set. So maybe one energy blast type and one other simple function as far as weapons go. Generally everyone has Hero Cuffs on them. Any other tools or gadgets are usually mission specific. For now, just give whatever is their default weapon/tool of the trade.

Generally, each Hero is made with some little design quirk. Furno was built to be particularly fast and agile, Breez to commune with animals, etc.
