I asked myself one day, “What if Hero Factory were released today?” And these builds are the answer.
I’ve been wanting to participate in Hero February for a while, since Hero Factory was my childhood, and over the past three art streams I have done this month, I have come up with these builds. Of course, the helmets are still the original style, but everything else is mostly system-built.
For these, I used the Ninjago elemental mechs as my reference. I made a few tweaks to the basic skeleton and recreated the CCBS armor shells in the standard system to the best of my abilities. For many of these, their weapons are based on weapons they’ve wielded in their official sets. Most notably, Furno and Surge have system-built recreations of their 1.0 weapons. Rocka was definitely the most challenging because there aren’t that many LEGO bricks and plates that come in pearl gold at the moment. Luckily, these are all buildable IRL.
These are pretty cool. I will say, they are a bit too chunky imo, especially Rocka and Evo, but I know that’s hard to avoid when using system rather than ccbs. I also feel that Stringer and Evo should switch hero core colors, and so should Nex and Rocka (though admittedly I can’t see what color Rocka’s hero core is). My last nitpick is that Breeze’s chest has to many exposed studs, I think it would look a little better with some plates and slopes.
Overall though, these are really cool system versions of heroes, great work!
This is EXACTLY what Hero Factory X System would look like in its best! I love how these are so unique yet so familiar to the official sets at the same time! My favorite is Breeze, though, because she looks SO SICK with her awesome helmet and sleek design! Great work!
So, I actually did base a lot of their color schemes off of colors from the official sets. I can see what you mean, though. Evo’s and Stringer’s cores should be each others’ colors, going by your logic. Same with Nex and Rocka (I used dark green for Rocka’s core, btw). Thanks for the constructive feedback.
I would say that, but the chunkiness fits the 2010 Hero designs perfectly on all but Breez and Surge. I have to say that my favorites here are Stormer and Furno, I think they have the best set accuracy and proportions of the OG cast in these MOCs. And the fact that Stormer’s gun is very close to being a part kitbash on the original set really helps make it replicable elsewhere (also I just love the looks of the Veteran Heroes’ guns, they all have elements of prior Bionicle weapons in their designs and just look great as bulky hand cannons).
Some of those builds are a bit blocky and could really benefit from the use of more curved slopes… That said, I love the brick-built Stormer gun that looks just like the piece from the 1.0 set!
I feel like they’re definitely too chunky and blocky, especially as the '10 originals used specialized pieces with many thinner portions whereas these heroes are entirely chonk. Which might not have been so bad were it not for the original head pieces being used, when LEGO circa now would almost certainly have used these with prints for the faces:
So, fun fact: a lot of these guys had their weapons inspired by their 1.0 weapons. Furno’s and Surge’s are recreated to the best of my abilities with a few color differences while Stormer, Stringer, Bulk and Breez had some creative twists implemented.
@DuneToa Funny enough, your comment made me think of when I did a comparison between the heights of buildable figures throughout the years:
