Okay, what about Hammer Flush? Or other masks like speed and strength, or the Elemental Creatures and Umarak, and the Ancient City, and the ancient Protectors, and all the books and graphic novels coming out.
There’s more the Bionicle’s story than people think there is, it just takes more than a surface level approach. Just because the story or lore isn’t directly communicated through the sets’ advertising doesn’t mean it’s completely absent.
And even if it’s limited, LEGO is about imagination. I frankly find fan stories based on Okoto to be more interesting than any story LEGO can put out, but sadly not many seem to be taking that initiative to use this world that is purposefully left a little bare bones so as to encourage creative new stories from the fans. Compare G2’s world to the restrictions placed on G1. It has so much more potential for imagination, the essence of LEGO.
Don’t get me wrong, I want a little more depth in G2 as well, but we don’t need useless facts and knowledge that artificially make the world more expansive to make better stories.
If it did end, and people tried to get it back, I imagine it probably go something like this-
Fans- "Give us BIONICLE!’
LEGO-“No.”
Fans-“GIVE US BIONICLE!”
LEGO-“No.”
Fans-“GIVE US BIONICLE NOW! WE DEMAND IT! GIVE US BIONICLE!”
LEGO-“No.”
Fans: Give us BONKLES for a third time plox.
Lego: No freaking way. You guys complained when we gave you some great sets, excellent story and then compared it unfairly to a completed line. We gave this to YOU guys, as fans, and then you spat in our face. Some fans you are!
True.
A good deal of Bionicle fans are stupid.
But when I saw the new sets, I was ecstatic. The jist of it is that people just suck in general.
(Aren’t I little ray of sunshine)
It could, I see Bionicle as along the lines of classic themes, like space ad pirates, where every few years or so, they bring in a new theme for a little while, it never lasts but its still there.
This depends.
Personally, I believe Lego ended Bionicle so they could make SW build able action figures exclusive, at the request of Disney. I have outlined the entire theory elsewhere, and you don’t have to agree with me, but it does explain why it’s a business desicion to end a line that, according to Lego, sold well.
If we, the Bionicle fans, decide “Well, Bionicle is over, Imma collect those sets I never got the chance to off of bricklink, and ignore SW, cuz they’re over priced” AND SW makes less than G2 did, I think we will definitely see Bionicle pull a reboot.
With Bionicle, Lego has a choice. Either they can make money off of it, or Bricklink can. I think they’ll realize it soon.
Eh. Maybe. Keep in mind, LEGO is the biggest toy company in the world. They’re pretty hard to push around. Then again, Disney is an even bigger entertainment company, so it’s a possibility.
As for ‘pulling a Rebooted’, one of my theories is that LEGO’s reassessing the whole situation, since G2 didn’t do as well as G1. They’ll probably make some legitimate marketing efforts if and when they decide to do so.
In other words, a ‘Rebooted’ could already be happening. Plus, we did kinda manage to keep the series alive until G2 rolled around, so I see no reason why it couldn’t happen again.
Thank you! I’m glad I’m not alone in thinking this, because I’ve seen a lot of people say “Bionicle is never coming back ever in the history of ever,” (I realize this is a Reviving Bionicle quote) and I don’t understand why. It’s come back once already. It can do so again.
Because Bionicle was ended in 2010 so it would not be ruined forever because of less then good sales. Bionicle was ended in 2016 because of awful sales, they could not finish one generation, there is no way in heck they are gonna make another,
