If Bionicle ended do you think the fans could pull a Rebooted?

I know that there was a ton of outcry when G1 ended, but then Ninjago Rebooted happened. For those of you who don’t know in 2013 Ninjago did only a winter wave called “the final battle” When Ninjago was found to be ended, it was hit with so much community backlash LEGO had no choice to keep it. But this could have also could have been because of Chima being a replacement? Could the Bionicle community equal this level?

This is a strange concept, I don’t really know.

Ninjago was rebooted because it sold far better than Lego had expected, if g2 ends after the initial run it will be because of a lack of sales.

If fan outcry could resurrect a theme we’d have a continuation rather than g2.

Uh, guys? Just to let you know, the theme was called Rebooted… It wasn’t actually rebooted. The season literally started out with the final battle from the previous year. Anyway, Ninjago ended in late '12 early '13, so it took an almost one year hiatus. I wouldn’t mind if Bionicle did the same.

Bionicle would need to have a massive push from consumers, not just fans, to get the Ninjago treatment from Lego. But it’s certainly not impossible.

Do you believe in miracles?

You’re basically saying could the fans bring back G2 through complaining.

Keep in mind this is exactly what fans thought they could do when G1 ended, and it didn’t work. We got Bionicle back, but it was in no way through fan complaints, they had it planned for a long time before it released.

So I find no reason to believe that something that didn’t work before would work in any case.

Well, to be fair, G1 would have just continued to flounder if they continued it past 2009/2010. Too complex and confusing. I don’t remember such a big Ninjago community when it was about to die out, but I just wasn’t on the internet much then. If G2 does get cancelled, I would like it to be like Transformers, where they reboot it every now and then. Possibly alternating with various HF reboots, which I personally would not mind.

That’d be awesome.

Well, yes that is sort of what i’m saying. I’m just saying though Ningago did do it.

Except it was ALWAYS Lego’s plan to bring back Ninjago. I specifically remember one issue of Lego Club Magazine saying “Ninjago will be back: next year!” or something like that.

In BIONICLE’s case, I don’t think Lego plans to do something of that basis.

“Everything they built will fall! And from the ashes of their world, we’ll build a better one!”

Honestly I wouldn’t mind if they stopped g2 after 3 years and did a Bionicle legends series were every year was a different scenario of remake of a past year, just updated and modernized. If Lego isn’t willing to put a ton into the story then this is the best and most cost effective was to sell the line and constraction as a whole.

BIONICLE in most likely cases would end due to poor sales. Ninjago ended from anything because poor sales.

Possibly. When Ninjago ended, it was due to both good sales and community outcry that it was brought back. I think that we could bring bionicle back after 2017, but so long as rather than simple hate and backlash, it was due to constant and overwhelming calls from CONSUMERS (Not just fans, people who buy it), logically and calmly explaining that we want it back.

It’s a long shot, but maybe it would work?

Honestly, I doubt we could “pull a Rebooted” for one simple reason: with Ninjago, the decision to continue the theme was made largely because of the line’s overall success. No other System line except Star Wars could compete with it, so it only made sense to keep it around. However, BIONICLE is not the “big” constraction theme–Star Wars is.

This line of constraction sets is doing very, very well–which was to be expected (after all, it is Star Wars.) Now, LEGO doesn’t have to put much work into selling these toys–they don’t need to make a TV show, or books, or any other forms of media because Disney handles that. All LEGO does is design, produce, and license the sets, and then the sets basically sell themselves.

Now, BIONICLE–from what we know–has “average” sales (though this is technically not proven yet.) However, it probably costs more (to sell) than the LEGO Star Wars sets. They DO have to make a TV show, books, and comics because without them, the toys would not sell. This means that they have to put more money into BIONICLE, yet they still don’t make as much as the Star Wars sets.

So not only does BIONICLE perform worse than many other System lines, it can’t even perform better than other constraction lines. Star Wars–a more profitable line–beats it out easily. So LEGO really wouldn’t gain much from keeping it around.

TL;DR: the Star Wars constraction sets are more beneficial for LEGO to keep around than BIONICLE. Since BIONICLE doesn’t rake in tons of money–not even as much as it’s constraction competitor–it’s unlikely that LEGO would decide to continue the line.

I apologize if this doesn’t make any sense, or if it seems like rambling. I’m having trouble conveying my thoughts right now. :stuck_out_tongue:

No. Bionicle is not in the hearts of new kids as it was when it was first released in 2001. Times change and so do generations.

Bionicle is constriction and I don’t think Lego did a good enough job of making it interesting for kids. I can see how a kid would find Bionicle “weird.”

Yes, plus its much easier for them to make a profit from themes from well know franchises like DC, Marvel, Star Wars than from their own IPs since they dont have the added pressure of creating a fictional world and a story viable for each years sales and make it interesting for kids to follow (this is why all new IPs get such a opening marketing plan than in comparison to already established IPs). And its even worse for constractions who are an oddball of LEGO themes, which always sold less.

Granted, word of mount, bad/good press from AFOLs and Constraction Fans alike contributed a lot to the lower and higher sales depending on the situation of any given line. Example: Hero Factory got a lot more slack than Bionicle did, even though the had similar problems in terms of story and even set design (for their respected price ranges), and Bionicle got a lot of slack from AFOLs (not just adults that buy LEGO for themsleves, but also parents who follow LEGO a bit more due to it being such a great toy for their kids) when it was first release since its made of super detailed specialized pieces…I mean we like to think this didnt effect constraction since we like to think the most positive thing about our likes, but it kinda stuck even to this day, which is why the whole marketing, demand, and even interest with the constraction toys is a lot less than desired.

So is it possible for Bionicle to get another Reboot, not sure it will. Specially since a lot of the initial fan outcry from a lot of previous and some new people introduced to the theme was negative towards the new building system, which indeed hurt Bionicle., specially because those people actively promote negatively Bionicle and didnt purchase the toys.

So you lost that part of your profit, plus the way the whole second generation was marketed and shown in media was just…wrong. It made its story too simple (now simple is okay if you know how to do it, you dont actually need a in depth explanation for a line that will probably only last for 3 years, but you need to use those three years worth of time to make the world consistent with itself, interesting, and not make your readers, listeners, and watchers look like bunch of simpletons. Kids are way smarter than we give them credit, this has previously surprised people like Greg who saw how kids know stuff that even he may have forgotten or didnt anticipate.) I can go into depth why the story of Bionicle should have stayed simple as it was in 2003 but not too simple that we had basically no info about the world or anyone to even give us any indication about at least the lore of the island.

Could the fans get it back like Ninjago did…

Nope.
