Large-scale Lego statues

Recognize that guy? It’s a large statue of Jack Stone, built with bricks! He was standing in Legoland Günzburg when we visited in 2022, so he’s probably still there.

I decided to make this topic for documenting all kinds of large-scale Lego statues. Whenever you find an interesting one, put it here!
Generally these statues can be divided into two categories:

  • made of bricks, like Jack above
  • made of large molded plastic parts, like the Toa Metru below.

These Toa Metru statues were also found in the same park, they’ve been installed in 2004 alongside the Bionicle Power Builder attraction. All of them except Whenua were removed in 2011 when it was rebranded for Hero Factory (they didn’t add any cool Hero Factory statues instead, just slapped on a giant 2D print of Furno 3.0 and called it a day).

Onewa and Matau were in the middle of the plaza. These weird bumps in the floor were left there, they just pulled away the statues (you could even still see the spots where they used to be fixated).

Vakama and Nokama were in front of the Power Builder hall. The Furno print took Nokama’s place, though that had also been removed in the meantime (it was just empty space in 2022).

Nuju was inside the waiting area. Also removed, but there was still a TV playing Nuju’s promotional animation on loop!

And lastly, Whenua who sits upon an artificial hill inside of the building. He was still there 2 years ago! His statue has motorized movement, slowly swinging his arms and looking around. I assume he was left there since he’s in a place that’s pretty difficult to reach. This is a bad photo but it’s the best I could find, I unfortunately didn’t take any when I was there.

Edit: Go to 0:17 in this video, there you can get a better look at him! He’s not moving though.

There’s also these three Toa Nuva in Legoland California. From what I can gather, they still exist.

I wonder what happens to such statues when they’re removed. Are they destroyed, or are they standing around in a warehouse?

Got any interesting photos or facts about Lego statues like these? Have a go!

Sad news actually, they were taken down and destroyed a couple of days ago due to safety concerns. Tahu’s head was salvaged but the rest is gone

My favourites have gotta be the brick-built Rock Monster statues! This one’s of Firox but I distinctly remember a Glaciator statue at this massive (sadly closed down) independent toy store. I swear I had a picture but I’ve never been able to find it

That toy store was amazing while it lasted though. Look at this

Two Antroz statues

A Keelerak between them

Vezok statue

And Kalmah statue

And that’s a Legoland Styracosaurus in the centre

Oh, and Duplo Thomas statue too

Woah, that toy store looks absolutely amazing! I like how they kept those statues on display even after the sets were discontinued. I remember seeing a copy of that big Thomas irl before, it was at some model train exhibition years ago. It’s always curious where these statues end up going.

I recently came across this Jayko, it’s interesting how the blue parts of his body are made of bricks while the joints seem to be large pre-molded parts.

It’s from a 2004 truck tour, the folder also has a photo of the same Jack Stone model (though he’s missing an arm).

That’s devastating. Those things were the highlight of my Legoland California trips… glad I got selfies with them before they left! Pardon my censored face.

Very cool statues, shame they had to go.

Let’s see what else I’ve got… I’m sure I’ve got something from my Legoland trips!

Here we go! There’s dozens upon dozens of brick-built statues of dinosaurs in Legoland California’s new “Dino Valley” area. The area itself is not new, the rides have just been rebranded, but the statues are spectacular. I went the day after the thing opened and it was amazing to see all of the bright colors before they were faded by the sun.

Definitely would recommend the ride. It’s nice and calm, nothing too crazy. It’s a good place to rest while seeing some nice Lego stuff.

Not gonna post all the dinosaur photos because I don’t want to spoil the ride… but I’m sure if you’re interested you can find a video of it.

Pirate statue from Legoland California. I think this used to be a dude in a bathtub but they replaced it semi-recently. I like the pirate more, I think he’s from Mystery Minifigures series 8.

Minecraft Steve! I like this statue quite a lot. It’s in “The Big Shop” near the entrance/exit of Legoland California.

I’ve got more pictures but I think I’ll leave some for everyone else who wants to participate.

I want this piece of obscure Bionicle media

Hang it next to your Bionicle collection to keep spiders away.

I just checked my other photos from Legoland, there’s a few interesting things. Starting with a model of the Control Center II dinosaur, which is huge. Super impressive, and I love how he’s holding a burger.

This giant Einstein head with moving eyes is in front of the former Mindstorms academy. Speaking of which, that was a disappointment… I had read about the Mindstorms academy and was looking forward to going there, only to find out that it has been replaced with a gaming room. What used to be a place for learning about Mindstorms was now a dim room filled with Nintendo Switches and little kids fighting over them. Yeah, a little disappointing…

These are around the entrance area.

This scene struck me as oddly funny for some reason, no idea why.

This is a cutout of a photo inside the Power Builder, they have a wall print of G2 Toa. It might not be cool statues, but at least it’s something! Whenua was on the opposite side of the hall.

Different topic, I just remembered these silly stock images. I’d really love to go for a walk with a giant Cybermaster Crusher…

Some of those models look familiar…

The dinosaur has a duplicate in Legoland California, except ours has a gaming controller. He’s still really big and impressive, though.

California also used to have an Einstein head but I think it got removed because I don’t remember seeing him. He was also right next to the Mindstorms area, but our Mindstorms area still exists. I don’t know what systems they run, as in RCX, NXT, EV3, or Spike PRIME, but it is definitely still there.

That’s kind of sad about the Mindstorms area in your Legoland… I went to the academy a few times when I was younger and it was really fun. They ran NXTs until about 2014, a year after EV3 came out.

The Ninjago model is another interesting find. We’ve got an almost identical build in California, except I think the stream is angled upwards more instead of downwards. Does the ice stream on the one you have connect to a model of the Monastery?

I believe yes! Can’t say for sure because I don’t remember, but looking behind Zane’s ice stream on the photo, there appears to be more white and blue brick action going on.

Generally asking, there has never been any statue based on Toa from the 2006-2008 run, has there? We’ve got the two Piraka for 2006, Kalmah for 2007 and Antroz for 2008, but there doesn’t seem to be any Toa Inika/Mahri/Phantomistika statues.

Also found a much better photo of Power Builder Nuju:

Used to be one of these in Windsor but it was taken down and presumably destroyed two years ago :/

Gosh I remember a lot of these Toa Metru and Nuva statues when I went back in 2008. Sad that, if I ever return, they won’t be there anymore.

Is it just me, or does Jack Stone’s face look a bit small?

I wonder what he’s been up to after all these years.

EDIT:
As to avoid double-posting, I am relaying such finds in an edit. However, I’ve located these two lovely specimen feature in this video regarding the toy marketing for Episode III. According to the video, these two were featured at a Hamley’s Toy Store.
