Lariska the Wise, Wonderful, and Gloriously Homicidal

I started this moc on a whim a few nights ago, just playing with some parts with no real idea in mind. Then I saw this torso from an older moc that never went anywhere and decided I wanted to make Lariska. So I made Lariska. It’s really as shrimple as that.

I don’t quite have all the pieces to make her look perfectly accurate to the render, but I ordered them last night and they are on the way, 12 parts in total. Also I realized after taking these pictures that the Skrall armor actually looks better pointed up, but I was just too lazy to take the pics again. Sorry.

Since this is Lariska we’re talking about, the one thing I wanted to make sure I got right is that she is taller than Toa Nidhiki (who, other than his staff getting greatly simplified, has not changed at all since the last time I showed him). She’s not quite as tall as I’d like, but I did get her past the threshold.

The head is actually where I struggled the most. I got the Bohrok eyes on Bohrok foot thing figured out pretty quickly, but figuring out how to top it off was a total nightmare. My first instinct was a Metru foot, but I don’t actually have any of those in dark blue. Then I tried Vamprah’s and Gavla’s masks, thinking I could justify her silver toes, but neither of those worked either. In the end, I settled on a Visorak foot, which to be fair does look really sleek. The photos use an illegal connection to secure it, but the render uses instead a couple half-pins and plates and I’ve modded the actual figure accordingly (again, too lazy to take more photos rn).

There were any number of ways I could’ve made her mechanical left arm. I wanted it to look and function very different from the ball and socket parts we’ve come to know from other Bionicle characters, so I zeroed in on these ratchet pieces. I had to use ball joints at the shoulder and wrist simply because I could think of no other way, but it both looks and feels the part regardless.

Fun Facts

  • In her proper, color-corrected form, Lariska contains 74 pieces, 4 of which make up her poison-coated daggers.
    • The daggers are this part from 75529 Elite Praetorian Guard. As far as I know, neither Studio nor any custom part packs contain them, so the render uses a stand-in.
  • The left arm can also be made in old dark grey and white. The primary reason I’m using metal blue is because I only have those parts in that color. I have a crazy amount of metal blue pieces from having acquired 3 super battle droids over the years.
  • Elephant in the room, I went with the “blue-green” route instead of “teal” simply because of part availability. I have exactly 2 teal sockets hidden in storage somewhere, which is nowhere near enough for a Toa-sized character.
Had I decided to go non-purist and make one of her primary colors teal, here’s what she could look like…

Replacing dark blue

Replacing dark green.

I prefer the latter, but I don’t particularly like either of these. I’ll be sticking with my blue-green Lariska, thank you very much.

Get out of my sight and of this city. Get out before I kill you.

I love the choice of daggers! They work surprisingly well. I’m not the biggest fan of the head, if only because I feel like an effective assassin would have front-facing vision, but perhaps that’s just me. I do appreciate how you made the torso lithe and “feminine” without resorting to unpleasant (Roodaka-esque) means of conveying that.

This is the biggest problem I have with Roodaka’s and TSO’s head designs actually. In their base forms, their eyes are not visible from the front, which looks absolutely ridiculous. It probably would better fit Lariska to have her eyes on front, but I’m not sure how I could properly space them out in the area I had; but at least you can see her eyes from the front.

The dark colours feel fitting for a shadow assassin like lariska.
