Hello Fellow compatriots to yet another build! Rather two in-fact. The Gukko Bird was one of those sets from my childhood that I had a lot of fun with. But the only downside being that shelf display; where it looked like it just crashed against the grounds of Ko Wahi when not in use. I wanted to fix that, especially since Gukko Birds should have legs and it was quite odd that the official set didn’t have any. As for riders, I wanted to mix things around by including Takua in this build. But before I get too ahead of myself.
Focusing heavily on the concept art design of the Gukko Bird from “Bionicle: Mask of Light”, the Gukko utilizes a lot of the same curvature and feather pattering with what would have been available in 2003 for this design.
Even down to the head which utilizes a gear to replicate the tufts of feathers along the neck. Not only that but streamlining the wings to not only retain what the OG set did, but doing it better with the use of gears instead of the Technic mess that made it super hunched initially. The biggest mind-scratcher was how would I pull off the handle. The last thing I needed was an Transformers Armada Laserbeak situation. And what I came up with, is probably one of the best ways to make a handle. The legs are able to link together with ease becoming the handle for ultimate swoosh-ability! The Gukko’s head can even turn left and right automatically depending on which way you are turning this majestic creature! You can also of course control the head with an array of gears, or even have Takua turn the head for you if you have a spare pin on hand to link HIS hand to the big gear on the Gukko Bird’s back.
As for the whimsical Av Matoran in disguise, I wanted to include more ranges of articulation to an otherwise near perfect design I have done years ago. From using Mata feet to reflect what he might have had back on Karda Nui, to the upside down legs to imitate Gali’s legs, and retaining some light blue in the colorscheme. For that shade of blue feels more like Takua than the Mata Blue in my honest opinion. Furthermore I added an ab crunch into the torso without impeding with the gearbox.
Well that is all for now, what sets or deep lore pulls would you like to see me do next? Let me know in the comments down below. Anyways, Happy Building and Play Well everyone.
