LEGO Prototypes Discussion

It’s interesting that at one point that he was supposed to have 2 extra pieces – maybe another dual fire shooter? Also, odd that they decided to express that in Roman numerals.

Also apparently there was one less piece, because the final model has 19. Probably the chestplate and core, if i had to guess.

I’d have thought that was just a placeholder before they put the actual part count on.

That’s the joke.

I’m curious about the Super Battle Droid head mold. Did it connect like the Drilldozer-unique chest armour? Or perhaps it used the exact same piece and then the head attached to it via the standard 3.2 mm CCBS connection.

it looks like the head/uppermost chest is a separate peice with a standard CCBS chest below it

Oh yeah; I noticed that, but it never clicked for me that that would prevent the Drilldozer chest from being attached as well (unless they went with a super custom torso). I guess the head piece probably had the sockets molded in.

The mold for the Drilldozer piece would’ve been long gone by then anyway, it had been 7 years since its last use and unused molds get destroyed in 5

Either war, the torso appears to be entirely custom - note how much the shoulders extend above the standard torso shell and how the hips extend below it. That shell fits the largest size of CCBS torso perfectly, so something even bigger must be custom

I wonder if the above prototype is related to this prototype of the unreleased “Jungle Thrasher” set:

The Inika head shoulders and clawed hands seem similar.

(Also, note the red Inika heads; that was the main reason I was going to post this prototype before I noticed @Triple’s post. Exo-Force had a ton a Bionicle recolours, so this isn’t too surprising. That would have been an awesome recolour to have.)

Christian Faber shared some awesome Inika and Piraka prototypes

crazy to think the GSR and Makuta could’ve been on the logo

Ah yeah Grinon, my favourite piranha

I’d actually love if “Grinon” could’ve been a character name. It sounds quite fitting for a Skakdi.

I wonder if the naming team intentionally derived it from “grin”.

I was wondering that as well.
Also, calling them Igniters, its almost like a prototype Phantoka/Mistika where both villains and heroes go by the same title. based on what they’re trying to accomplish or the enviroment they’re in. Pretty cool.

Looks really cool, but that would’ve been way too much of a giveaway.

Wish they used the Makuta one, though

and some unreleased sets form the 3rd wave around 2018(?). belive these were plain but things fell short when the theme got canned. tho the cyber wolf did get reused some what for the wolf mech in Kai’s Elemental Fire Mech
