Lego Store Experiences

Hoh? you went to Milwaukee too? Spoopy.

Hey look a bumped thread…

I just wanted to mention the new flagship store in Leicester Square and how flipping sweet the store is. First of all it’s got an exclusive architecture set (presumbly that’s the same for all flagship stalls) and ofc it’s the london skyline. They also have a mosiac face maker? The price is a little steep (100 quid) but you get a 4000(?) piece set of your face. A sad bit of news, they might be the only place in england you can get the wave 2 bionicle sets in store… Literally none of the usual toy shops near me bought the wave 2 stock ):

Anyway, would love to know if anyone has visited/plans to visit it, cause it really is a nice store.

oh yeah, i also got this photo from it

I’ve been to a single Lego store in my life, the one in Stuttgart. Been there in 2022 and the experience was disappointing.

Their selection of sets was rather small. They put a lot of focus on the Lego-exclusive sets, which is logical for a Lego brand store, but their selection of regular retail sets was really lacking.

The pick a brick selection was equally small, I found nothing that’d be useful for me personally (although that would be different for other people).

Prices were insane. I kid you not, many of the sets were actually marked 5€ to 10€ above the MSRP.

Yep, Lego stores have kind of lost their charm these days. Used stores, like Bricks & Minifigs or other thrift stores, are better for our tastes these days.

I lived in California for a while and their stores were pretty good in the 2015-2020 years, but after 2020 they really declined. Years and years ago, they had an amazing selection of sets, sometimes I even saw sets in-store before they appeared in catalogues. Their Pick-A-Brick wall was also really good, with unique parts like bushes or harder-to-find colors of standard brick sizes.

Then, after a few years of covid and a sort of Lego hiatus, I went back to my favorite two stores to find them in a slump. The main one I went to wasn’t that bad, just not as good as it was, but another I went to had really gone off the deep end. Their Pick-A-Brick wall probably hadn’t been restocked in a while, their set selection I can only describe as sad, and their set displays were built wrong.

It may have been just California, though. I’m not trying to get political, but crime was getting kind of bad in one of the Lego store areas, so some stores around there started carrying less stock… and I mean, several Walmarts I went to had to lock up their Lego stuff, so… let’s just say Lego buying in California probably isn’t as fun anymore.

A couple local malls have Lego stores in em. While I like the exclusives they carry, the drive is just long enough that I’d rather save time and fuel and buy shipping online. Otherwise it’s just a glorified lego aisle in any big box store. I’ll check it out if I’m at the mall, but it’s not a very thrilling experience to me
