Lego theme trope diagram

(V1)
I attempted to organize almost every original LEGO theme into 6 categories, Town, Space, Castle, and the in-between combinations of those three. this is the result.

some castle and town subthemes weren’t included because I felt like they weren’t distinct enough from the general idea of castle or town to be shown as their own thing, and because I was a bit lazy :stuck_out_tongue:.
also some themes weren’t included simply because they were too out of place to categorize for various reasons. (Mindstorms and other themes like it, girls accessory themes like DOTS and Clickits, mixels, etc.)

(V2)
After a bit of discussion, I’ve made some updates to the chart.

some themes that I forgot have been added,
and trains has been moved into the orange section due to it’s historical elements.
I don’t plan to add any racers subthemes because most of them are either licenses, don’t stray that far out of the basic idea of racers, and/or don’t even have their own logos.
I decided to move alien conquest into the pink section because it takes place on earth.
I’ve also decided to remove architecture because it can be considered a licensed theme.
I might move hidden side to another section at some point.

(please let me know if this belongs somewhere else.)

Pretty good, I don’t see Island Xtreme Stunts with the Town subthemes or Drome Racers in the sci-fi area or Studios in the town/fantasy area. You could make the argument that Trains is a historical theme, or you could make the argument that Architecture is a licensed theme so it should be omitted. Belville is a town/fantasy theme that should go in the orange area. Fright Knights, Dragon Masters, Knights’ Kingdom I, Castle 2007, and Kingdoms should go in the castle area to balance out all the sci-fi subthemes. If you really want to get technical, Duplo should be in the center with Creator since Duplo has done all three major themes, and so has Mixels come to think of it.

Lego Ninja vs Lego Ninjago

I admittedly forgot about island extreme stunts, drome racers I didn’t consider separate enough from normal racers to be labelled separately (but I may change that in the future), I decided studios was too multifaceted to include, and also it’s a bit ambiguous whether it’s scifi and fantasy elements should be ignored or not since they’re technically not real in that context? I honestly thought the same about Architecture, so I’ll probably take it out at some point. I also just didn’t put many castle subthemes in the castle section because I felt like they didn’t stray far enough out of the basic idea of castle to be labeled separately, but I probably should have for the sake of consistency (if anything the castle subthemes are MORE distinct from eachother than the space subthemes). I don’t really consider duplo to be a theme, since it’s basically an entire building system/brand in it’s own right. It’d be like including znap or technic as a theme (less so with technic).

sorry about this giant rambling block of text. I’m not the greatest with words, or formatting them for that matter.

By that logic, Galidor and Dinosaurs shouldn’t be on the list for having sets that use their own building system. Also since Jack Stone is on the list shouldn’t Fabuland be included too?

Back to Studio, I think it is a pure Town theme with no fantasy elements due to the presence of cameramen, lighting equipment and film props. Drome Racers had its own video game and mini comics which sets it apart from normal Racers and early Town Race. Though if we did that it’d be best to include every Racers subtheme so it’s up to you. Back to Town I noticed that you included Outback here but didn’t include its counterpart Divers, which is different enough from Aquazone and Aquaraiders to be included.

Personal opinion: I think Hero Factory sholud be in "=green category, for it is not scifi with humans but with robots (it should be in one category with Nexo knigths). Also maybe Ninjago and Chima should be “closer” to yellow category, for there is no so mmuch “hi-tech” in them. The Lego Movie should be added as white. Mixels should be added as white. Power Miners are at least in bluee category, if not in green. Like living rocks - sounds like fantstic. Also, Mindstorms should be in abstract category, and technic in crossing of abstract and town.

Vert interesting classification in fact, maybe not very universal, but very interesting. It is like “our time”, “future time”, “unrealtime”. Also, I’ve just discovered that I like at least one theme in each, except for white (it is because there is no Mixels and Movie in it)+I like everythung in green.

you could say that galidor is it’s own system, but the difference there is that it isn’t multiple stories/ideas being communicated through the same system. It’s all one story, so it gets counted as a theme. I wouldn’t really consider dinosaurs to be it’s own system since it still uses plenty of traditional parts, and the parts made exclusively for it were used in other lines (specifically studios and star wars.).
fabuland wasn’t included simply because I forgot about it, sorry about that.
And once again I admit I probably should have included more town and castle subthemes, just for the sake of consistency.

Updated version is up now.
