Hello fellow compatriots to yet another build, but more importantly a new discovery in regards to a connection point that was never utilized for the Slizer torso for over 2 decades(As far as I’m aware). Quirk for all intents and purposes is my latest revamp of a character that I have made that is capable of converting into a ball for long distance travel. When the worm gear is engaged, it can also create a subtle breathing motion. With the head and arms moving slightly. If spun fast enough it could even look like a murderous hug.
Being a hybrid between a Fox, Velociraptor, and an Armadillo. However I have reason to believe that the connection point this build uses creates a lens for what we could have expected for a 3rd wave if it were to exist for the theme. For up to not one, but 3 gears can be interlocked with the worm gear with a great efficiency. Even the way the torso element 32166 was modeled seems to indicate for this level of interlocking to be intentional. Where the grooves themselves and tolerances work in perfect harmony. As no stress is created to suggest it to be a mere “happy-accident” that it just fits.
The possibilities for this connection is endless for what can be created for any body type a Slizer might have. Perhaps even one to truly adopt the sleek name that is Slizer if perfected. Instead of the clunky yet punkish physique that Throwbots typically have. Which in their own right is an aesthetic that I gravitate to.
I am glad you like the build! Trying to make him fit in with the others, while trying to keep the features I wanted him to have, took quite some time. Though discovering that external gear connection is honestly ground breaking and I look forward to seeing what you do with it
I love it! I would recommend cropping the pics a bit closer though, that way they’ll show up better on the Boards’ mobile interface for anybody using a smartphone.
Can do! I will be sure to fix up the post, and other posts going forward. I didn’t consider that
(P.S. I was looking for the nervous laugh emoji, some reason it won’t allow me to pick a specific one without knowing the full name. I genuinely didn’t consider people on smartphone)
This is a super creative build to use the Throwbot torso like this. Getting what is basically an entirely new function ouf of a fairly specific design is really cool.
I’m not sure if this was a fully-designed usage, though; Lego parts tend to be in-system with each other, so it’s not really a coincidence that two gears connected a standard distance apart can mesh.
It might not be a coincidence, but it does shed light in what Lego might have made if another wave of Throwbots were to come into being. Either it being something like Quirk, a flier, a titan, a vehicle, or whatever crazy idea Lego would have done.
But I am glad you like the build and it certainly won’t be the last to use this same connection point in future builds. It’s always awesome how years later we can still find fun little easter eggs in vintage Lego elements.
Its slightly offset due to the nature of the Worm Gear. But due to the radius size of the adjacent gear, its barely noticeable. Which is helpful for anything thats eyeballing it, but for anything complex where it needs to be timed, probably a little annoying
