Forged from the most powerful great being technology, and the mind of Spherus Magna’s greatest warrior. Marendar is a nearly unstoppable mix of machinery and organics, with the battle tactics and skills of the mightiest glatorian, and high tech weaponry designed to counter the Toa completely. All desires beyond fulfilling its single mission have been purged.
My take on the Toa killer. This is a pretty old Moc (2017 or so) at this point, though it has been steadily improved over the years. It uses my usual mix of G1 and G2 aesthetic. The design is not intended to be a robot, but a cyborg. It’s essentially the same idea as general grievous (Nervous system and brain are retained from the original body.) It also has some rather obvious design homages from the Movie and Prime Shockwave designs.
The wrist blades retract, popping in and out against the forearm with a barraki claw acting like a tendon.
It is intentionally Toa-sized. I think something the same height as the Toa is thematically a lot scarier than another Titan. How much worse can it be if it doesn’t need to be huge?
The eye is done with a meltdown head, and a stringer armor part. They interlock reasonably well, and a lightsaber bar runs through the assembly to hold everything together. (This photo also shows an outdated cannon assembly.)
Despite its bulk, it’s rather poseable. The heavy body gives it a low center of gravity. Its scale with normal(ish) Toa can be seen here.
There are a pair of small blasters on its forearms, beside the retractable blades. These are Kanohi disrupters, able to overload masks when Toa attempt to use them. This can backfire, however, depending on the mask. (Something like the Zaath gets ugly fast)
Variable output plasma cannons are connected on the second set of shoulders, and are capable of aiming and firing independently. They have a high power draw, and cannot be used for sustained periods of time.
The cylinder at the back is a power dampener, using technology similar to the Bota Magna Vorox to cancel out the Toa’s powers.
The design also glows in the dark, with trans-glow lego parts threaded through most of the frame. It’s a lot brighter than the stuff they use now.
10 years of building G2 stylized Mocs, and this guy is still my favorite.
