Markoa, The Skull Raiders (G2 modded sets)

I came up with names and lore for the Skull Villain characters, and modified most of the sets pretty heavily. I’ll post the rest of them here eventually. We’ll start with the leader.

Kulta, The Skull Grinder

The leader of the raiders, Kulta rules through fear and indoctrination. The cult worships a God of Death called the Unmaker, and Kulta is his mouthpiece, a role he plays with a Kanohi Tryna. Fallen warriors and enemies alike rise again as the Markov, thralls of the Unmaker. He is clever and opportunistic.

He has been upgraded into a proper, more titan like design, still styled somewhat set-like. biggest thing was bulking up his waist and upper legs, there’s a fairly elaborate technic build packed under the chest. The sword can stow on the back, and both weapons are cleaned up.

Noice. Really like this reimagining as a sort of hybrid between G1 and G2.

THIS.

IS.

WAY.

BETTER.

THAN.

THE.

ORIGINAL.

You have somehow mastered AWESOMENESS and balanced it with such a scrawny LEGO set- making him look like a TRUE leader! I LOVE his cool cape and buffened body- it makes him look WAY more menacing, like a threat the Toa would struggle to fight against! This design is GOATED in every way, and the lore you made clicks with the build PERFECTLY! Great job, and keep up the good work! :+1:

Thank you! I’m glad you guys like him. I always felt like he needed to be at least a bit larger than Tahu, if he’s supposed to be the big bad of the year.

Here is the second most involved revamp: Kalavar, The Skull Scorpion.

Ravenous, aggressive beasts. Armed with a snapping tail and venomous barbs in their pincers. Kalavar are barely controllable in the best of circumstances. A minor injury to one will often cause the others to tear it apart in a frenzy. The best the Markoa can hope for is pointing them away from their own warriors, so the only thing around them are enemies when they finally go ballistic.

In the unlikely event a Kalavar is slain and not torn apart by its own kin, they can be reanimated into a powerful undead beast, though it will lose its coloration and venom.

Now includes a fully posable tail and legs. Dumb colors were also stripped off.

The tail now has a simple pinching gimmick. Pincers are posable and much stronger (dumb little cracking claw pieces are gone.)

The leg fix in particular changes everything, it fills out the creature and makes it look less like a broken umbrella.

The Kalavar Markov (Undead), In ghostly blue

It looks very cool with the limited edition mask

I am EAGERLY looking forward to the rest of these. Great work!

as someone who grew up with g2, you can never convince me that the originals aren’t perfect. but these are very cool.

@kawaii_kitten I love the G2 sets style, despite growing up with the originals. The overwhelming majority of my bionicle Mocs and modifications are from the reboot. I’m glad to see that other people appreciate it too.

Kovarr, The Skull Basher. A brutal enforcer, Kulta’s loyal second in command. While lacking any creative tactics, he is a terrifying frontline warrior. Armed with a pair of massive axes, Kovarr is strong and fast, physically more powerful than any Toa. He will die for his cause without hesitation. Any of his warriors deemed weak or cowardly are summarily executed.

Like my others, his color blocking is improved. The bashing gimmick is unchanged.

Axes are redone with proper hilts, He is higher ranking and gets better stuff.

I removed the hollow purple horns, and translucent orange. Legs are beefier and hooved, completing his minotaur like appearance. He is closer to the hulking brute in the animation, which lied and made him much bigger.

Glad to see the action feature is unchanged. That was always my favorite part of the original set. I do kind of think you lose something by ditching the translucent reddish-orange armor, since now the red bits on the chestplate don’t match anything except his eyes, but overall this is a great MOC.

@biomechanical_baboon Yeah, I have some hyper-specific color preferences. Basher looked better than most, but it felt like the trans orange was tacked on rather than worked in. But agreed on the chestplate.

Lacera appears to be a different species than the others, and is the oldest of the Markoa. Unfortunately, centuries of arena fighting and violence have left her crazed and unpredictable. While her hand to hand combat is incredibly fast and dangerous, she lacks any strategy or self preservation. Her crazed laughter and multi-armed attacks catch enemies by surprise, often ending the fight before it starts.

(I swapped the gender purely due to the more feminine name.)

Thinner armor on the shoulders, using a clever design I came up with for fastening Bionicle armor to ccbs shells. I covered the bare ball parts on the frame, I always hated them leaving the normal bones empty.

Hilts have been added to make the swords more complete. She also has a nasty hook weapon, It was rather difficult to get that chain centered.

Small back armor part was fitted on, gear function is unchanged, aside from removing the yellow.

The modifications aren’t as drastic but the design feels like it’s actually complete.

The Markoa warrior is a dangerous, organized threat. Trained with versatile weaponry, basic infantry tactics, and intimidation. They are devoted to their God, the Unmaker. Their worship is death, either of their enemies, or themselves. Any Markoa that falls in battle rises again as a Markov.

I grabbed a few extra in 2016 from clearance.

I cut all but 3 colors from the bow and smoothed it out. Trans-Orange was removed, it felt random. Other small tweaks were made to the back. I always thought this guy was the best out the skull villains, at least in terms of executing the idea of an undead enemy.

@kawaii_kitten There was a brief window in 2010-2012 where everyone was ditching their bionicle at thrift stores. I got some amazing stuff really cheap. My favorite is still one of those bionicle creator tubs, opened but unused and full of parts.

Axato, The Skull Breaker

The brother of Kulta, Axato is ambitious and cruel. He is an exceptional fighter, but is best known for his devious strategies. Kulta neglected to make him second in command out of spite, despite his obvious qualifications. He wears a crude replica of the mask of creation to demoralize the Okotans. (The character originally appeared in one of the books I think.)

KO mask of creation, no runes. The quality and color are both good.

The staff has a number of configurations.
