“Sometimes a hero has to do something else besides beat the villains and come home covered in glory. Sometimes, he has to make a sacrifice so that a lot of people — people he’s never met before, and who don’t know his name — can live.”
~Hahli, Downfall

Nope, I’m still not dead. Unlike the subject of today’s post.

…is 13 years still too soon for that? Ah well.

A MOC I made back in April but realized I never posted here. I believe this Toa needs no introduction from me. One of my favorite characters from G2, I felt I needed to make my own take on Matoro, which ended up happening partially by accident while I was messing around with the very…unconventional…torso design you see here. Someone slap me the next time I think a triple-tri-axle torso core is a good idea. I assure you, it isn’t. Took me something like two days straight to figuratively “debug” all the quirks of that design. Aside from that, not much else to say about this guy.

For once when I say “I have something coming soon,” I actually mean it this time! Seeing as the MOC is…y’know…pretty much done already. It’s another character Bionicle fans will already be familiar with, having appeared in both G1 and G2, although the MOC style is a little bit of an experiment, so we’ll see how it goes.

Here’s hoping Flickr embed doesn’t screw up the pictures again…

I’ll see you on the flip side.

Nice mock! Now prepare for a terrible joke

Ready?

I guess you could call it a, mahri-vamp

Shoulders seem a bit too narrow to me, but with how intricately detailed the torso is it’s not a problem. Very nice work there, I especially like the little shoulder thrusters.

I usually don’t like matoro mahri mocs that get rid of the hunched neck but this one has a lot of stuff that I like

Yes, it’s still too soon. Thanks for destroying me emotionally. :stuck_out_tongue:

Anyhow, the build looks pretty good. The torso is really neat, so maybe all the pain was worth it. He’s a little… small, but that sort of works for Matoro. Sort of. I think, like Dadertrix, that the shoulders are slightly too narrow. The use of the Mistika jets is cool.

Ooh nice build, I like it. Although my one criticism would be that the original Matoro was more bulky (and hunched back :stuck_out_tongue:) great build over all

I’m not a fan of the slizer foot and 3L liftarm with their pinholes facing forward on the torso. With the CCBS, system slopes, bohrok eyes, chest dot and even to an extent the top of his feet you otherwise have white areas being flat and clean looking. Perhaps more system slopes could be used?

Otherwise I think he looks great. As others have said the shoulders do seem too narrow, but I also think they’re mounted a bit low on him. Elbows should be on the same level as his waist joint really. I love the jets on his back and the integration of his hook weapon

That pun is terrible.

The MOC being physically smaller is a bit more of a product of my style - unfortunately, it does end up looking a little weird since I can’t downscale his mask to look more accurate. Suffice to say, if I had the resources to make an entire Mahri team revamp, they’d probably all be roughly this size, give or take. Getting rid of the hunched neck was also a personal choice - I never liked it on the set, personally. Still, thank you for the input!

@Gringat
Ahh, you noticed! The white being flat/clean was intentional. The Slizer foot and Technic liftarm were the result of combination “I don’t know what else to put here” and “It works well enough,” so admittedly I just got a little bit lazy and called it a day. As for the shoulders…you’re right, they’re a little bit low, looking back at it. Part of it is probably that he uses a double shoulder joint (two balljoints back to back to go from a socket on the torso to sockets on the shoulders) and that results in his shoulders sort of “sagging” so to speak. If I ever get around to modifying him, I’ll see what I can do to raise it up a little bit.

Also, glad to hear that the jets are a success. Those things were a pain to attach/integrate due to their weird overall shape and it seems to have paid off.
