I’m a huge fan of Metroid Prime and a while back I had the idea to get the beam icons custom printed onto some keycaps. I tried searching for 'em online, but couldn’t find any hq versions (I bet they’re somewhere in a texture pack), so I ended up making them myself in Illustrator.
I then proceeded to create a couple more icons. Been planning on recording a playthrough on Hypermode for a while, so I thought it’d be neat to map these icons onto a separate keyboard:
I created all the icons above in Illustrator except for the Screwattack (top left) and Morph ball symbols (bottom left), which I got from the internet. I wanted to sort of make it appear like a sideview of Samus. I ordered a custom Varmilo VA21M Cherry MX Brown mechanical numpad and ordered the keycaps from MAX Keyboards.
The caps came in today with a couple of misprints (the Thermal visor should be green and X-ray visor inverted), but I’m quite happy with how they turned out:
I thought most of 'em were pretty accurate, I used reference images and grids. The ones I’d say are sloppy are the leg and X-ray icons, since the reference I used for the leg wasn’t an official icon, and I couldn’t figure out how to create the exact shape for the outer part of the X-ray icon.
