Midi-scale Toa Mata build

An evolution of the system-based Toa Tahu builds that have been released in recent years. This MOC design is partly inspired by the original Toa Mata parts and their 2003 designs shown in Bionicle: The Game.

There are a few recolors here and there, but for the most part this is made with currently produced parts. It may benefit from a custom mold for the mask to keep it more in proportion with the rest of the body.

It’s an interesting build. I’m not a fan of the black kneecaps but that’s just my personal taste I suppose. Having the fingers abruptly end and turn into the handle for his sword is a bit jarring.

Do you plan on making any of the other Toa?

I saw this on reddit first, other than the hips, this looks really professional and a logical next evolution for ‘the red one’

I know I’m gonna sound like a broken record here since I made a similar critique on your last moc but I feel like the pin and clip/bar connections used as joints here would be very flimsy if this were constructed irl.

I’m not a huge fan of the overall proportions either, the torso feels a bit too large for the limbs. At the very least I think the lower legs should be longer if you’re going for realistic human proportions.
(I personally would prefer a more stylized/exaggerated/dynamic approach to proportions but that’s just my subjective tastes speaking.)
I do like how the details and shaping came out on the lower legs and torso though.

Also one more tiny nitpick: the slopes used on the front of the feet aren’t currently produced. That mold was retired in 2007. (the similar 47457 IS still in use today though)

Hey, that’s the part i actually tried first for the feet haha. I felt the 2002-2007 slope did a better job resembling the Mata feet design, but forgot to check the production years on that one.

Here are two approaches for proportions: Shortening the hip (left) and making the lower legs 1 stud longer (right). The first one would probably be a better choice for sturdiness; it has 4 stud connections holding the lower torso together instead of 2.

I feel like the mask/head needs a bit of upscaling, but the build itself is nice.
