In a recent short discussion about Playmobil with @TotalMaddness, we came to the conclusion that there should be a topic for discussing that kind of stuff.
So, uh, here it is, I guess.
If you’ve got a collection to show, an opinion to share or just… whatever fits the topic, it goes here.
Ah cool, that gives me Exo-Force vibes! The color scheme and overall design fit, if it was made of Lego it really wouldn’t look out of place as a Devastator vehicle.
Ah, playmobile, I was really into the dragon knights theme, specifically the second iteration of it.
Anybody here play with Imaginext as a kid? Me and my older brother were really into the knights theme for that (you can probably figure out what I was really into as a kid, lol)
I had never heard of Imaginext until now… So obviously I didn’t play with it as a kid Certainly looks interesting though, I bet I would’ve enjoyed some of these sets as a kid. I also just noticed they make power rangers stuff and that automatically makes me happy
But now I’m gonna break the Playmobil streak and share what I think is probably one of the coolest non-Lego toys to ever exist: Robosapien!
Not sure if you know Robosapien (but I assume at least some of you do, it’s quite a well known robot I think). If not, look up a video of him in action.
It’s an RC robot that’s quite impressive for a toy, he can walk, pick up and throw stuff, dance, run simple programs and do lots of stupid things. It’s just really entertaining, to me at least.
They’re super robust too, I got this guy for Christmas 2013 iirc and he’s still kicking after a ton of usage.
I also have Robone, which is basically Robosapien’s weird bootleg cousin. Found him at a flea market for 15 bucks a few years back. Same features (just cheaper mechanics, dang those gears are crunchy) in a different body. I quite like his appearance and I absolutely dig the color scheme.
This one takes me back. Used to have a whole menagerie of marvel figures, some quality, some just burger king toys. Didn’t matter. Loved me my action figures
This is the “Joustruck” by Ceji, it’s a motorized unimog from the 80s. Drives forwards and backwards with 4 wheel power. There’s several accessories and attachments made for it, but we only have the truck itself…
My second-favorite construction vehicle toy of all time - an articulated CAT excavator. With a rotating base, two caterpillar tracks, and an opening engine hatch, it’s pretty safe to say I was obsessed with this thing. The boom is fully movable, and all three pistons can move. Boom cylinder has some clicky bits inside so it can stay up and the stick and bucket cylinders can move when that black handle on the boom is pulled.
It is! It’s an award that is given to toys that have proven themselves to be save, well-made and worthwhile. Lego has received a few of them, too!
Was this perhaps made by the company “Bruder”? They’re a pretty popular toy manufacturer over here that mainly makes large scale vehicles that are realistic but also robust for play. I guess it’s somewhat similar to what Tonka is for the US (I had a motorized Tonka excavator which was pretty radical).
I had a number of their tractors and many accessories (mainly inherited from my older brother), a unimog and a gigantic mobile crane (back when I got it, it was still taller than me!)
I just tried taking some photos, but they’re really bad because it’s dark outside and this stuff is on the attic which only has one small lightbulb. I might go back and take some better photos in daylight tomorrow, if anyone wants to see it.
exceptionally crappy photos
If anyone is curious… Excuse the horrific lighting and the messy background
And yes, Tonka was (and I’m guessing still is) a big brand in the US for toy machines. I had all kinds of heavy machinery from them, ranging from licensed John Deer excavators to an actual metal dump truck that withstood an unreal amount of play.
This is making me want to check if I have any more Bruder things around, my brothers and I had a lot of trucks and stuff growing up that were all really good toys.
The mobile crane was one of my favorites. When fully extended, it’s really tall - didn’t take any measurements, but I assume it’s around 1.30m (5.2 feet). With a heavy counterweight and support feet (both of which I didn’t put on for the photo), this could haul really large things!
Unimog, a nice old Fendt tractor, and a forklift I forgot I still had. I believe we also had a more modern Fendt at one point, but I couldn’t find that.
Lots of accessories that are compatible with all the vehicles - as unrealistic as it may be, the mobile crane could technically go plowing a field with these. They’re all realistic and some even have nice functions (the hay tedder spins when you pull it along, the loading wagon has a conveyor inside, etc).
Here’s the Tonka chonker I mentioned. It’s really heavy, solid and has some fun functions. The tracks have always been missing (got it like this), but the arm was functional and that’s arguably the most important thing on an excavator!
