Moana and Gali's hooks

I recently saw the movie Moana and I highly recommend it to everyone. Moana is from the Island of Motu-Nui which sound a lot like the island of Mata-Nui. In fact, there are a quite a few Non-Bionicle people calling it “Mata Nui” and don’t even realize they are making a Bionicle joke.

Anyway, one thing I really loved about the movie was how Maui uses his hook. In 2001 Gali’s hooks seemed a little out of place, but after seeing Maui I think Gali could look awesome with her Hooks in Gen 3.

Well they’re both based of mouri culture so that could explain the similarities?

I think this is more of a case of cultural appopriation as opposed to copying…they both just happen to use the Maori and islander setting for inspiration; should Star Wars sue Men in Black for the creation of similar aliens?
