MOC: Warlord Mantax

These are gonna post in a weird order so bare with me here.

I’m just returning to the MOC game after a few years off from it, so I’m a little rusty, but this is the first guy I’ve made this year if you don’t count finishing up some old incomplete ideas. I didn’t have too much of an idea going into this what I wanted him to be (I just wanted to use that mask, and combine a lot of my favorite building strategies to refresh my mind), but I ultimately decided along the way that he may be a good representation of a Pre-banishment Mantax, which to my knowledge we haven’t gotten a good Cannon description of. To my knowledge I came up with the upper arm design on my own a few years ago, but I wouldn’t be surprised if I stole the idea from somewhere. Mantax has two points of articulation in each finger, 3 in each arm, one in each shoulder, 3 in each leg, two in the neck, and one in the waist. While many of the parts I used were more out of nessesity than want (gahlok-Kal shields in black would have been my preferred from the chest armor peices by the shoulders), none of his armor actually restricts any of his articulation. I personally don’t mind and sometimes even fancy blue pins and red axels, but for the sake of this message board I used every black pin and axel I could find in my collection. I’m not used to posting my Mocs anywhere so I don’t really know if I’m saying that standard stuff that people say but. That’s Mantax and this is me.

Thanks for all the love guys! Oh, also something I forgot to mention that I wanted to bring up, I think this guy was 289 pieces. I counted when I took him apart.

You took him apart?!

:frowning:

poor Mantax.

I needed his parts for something else  I’m not very sentimental about my builds, they’re usually day projects, maybe a week at most and I usually take them down once I’m satisfied with them

@DsbernArt: Same. I usually take apart a large swath of my M.O.Cs every once in a while.

Anyway, to add to my diagnosis of the M.O.C, he is not only a beeg boi but also a wel mayd boi

My only issue with the MOC is the lower arms. The armor add-on seems unnecessary and distracting. This also applies to the Inika armor. I understand wanting to add greebling to a CCBS plate, but there are more compact ways to do it. I only harp on this because the rest of the MOC is so great: it makes the lower arms super distracting. Good job!

Yeah, I struggled with the lower arms a bit. I needed to use a ccbs skeleton piece due to the pieces I had available, the construction of the upper arms, and the articulation I wanted, but I’m not the biggest fan of how simple it ends up looking. The inika piece was basically just an attempt to make it look just little more complex and more full. I don’t hate the lower arms, but I’ll admit I more or less settled for them.
