So, I’m sure a lot of folks who grew up with LEGO in the 90’s, unlike me, remember the RoboRiders theme that happened between 2000 and 2001. This theme centered around anthropomorphic motorbikes who were tasked with fighting against a virus corrupting their homeworld. I had the idea a few years ago to see how the sets would look using modern LEGO elements and techniques, and this is what I came up with.
I was gonna do a YouTube video on this originally, but I kept getting occupied with other projects and gradually lost motivation. Thankfully, I did not forget about these guys, and they are public now.
For The Boss, I decided to give him two builds that reflected the two ways his set could be put together: a condor-themed three-wheeler that could transform into a VTOL aircraft, and a set of three bikes that could combine into a scorpion-themed superbike with claws and a tail-mounted cannon.
Power was technically the first Roborider I built. When I saw his limbs, I actually thought they were laser cannons instead of specialized brakes, so I gave him an additional set of limbs to act as laser cannons, as well as a mohawk.
Onyx, admittedly, it pretty basic. However, he does now feature violet and green in his color scheme and rock-like armor to reflect his biome and namesake. His laser turrets are also now articulated.
Swamp remains a three-wheeler. However, a lot of his teal has been replaced with yellow. He still has teal eyes, though. His katana limbs are also now fully articulated.
Lava shares his build with Swamp as they are both three-wheelers. As a result, his halberd arms are also fully articulated. A few big differences between the two include the choice of wheels, and Lava now has the face of a dragon to reflect his bio.
For Frost, I thought it’d be cool if he were built after a snowmobile rather than a typical bike. As a result, he has skis up front instead of wheels. His spike weapons now have a shoulder joint and a piston gimmick. He also has razor-sharp teeth.
Dust is pretty basic as well aside from his now articulated missile launchers which make use of the new spring-loaded missile launcher element that was introduced recently.
Unfortunately, I was not able to preserve the launchable front wheel gimmick that these guys had originally, but I was able to keep the articulated wheel feature which has now become suspension. As a nice bonus, all of these are buildable, so if I have the motivation, then I might make instructions for all these guys.
