My Mata Nui Collection (so far)

So, I remember reading that there were apparently a whopping thousand years between the Great Rescue and the Arrival of the Toa Mata. I don’t know why but that alone fascinated me, causing me to imagine the sort of adventures that could happen on the island during that time. When I discovered and played the earlier Bionicle games, it sort of rekindled my love for the lore. I guess this collection is sort of a way to live through a time I was never a part of (because I was a toddler at the time), and a few months ago, I was obsessed with scouring the Bricklink pages to build what I could of the inhabitants of Mata Nui.

For now, it’s just a couple of Matoran, an Ussal with a cart, and a group of Rahi, but hopefully I’ll be able to pick this up again. I already have a Google Doc listing parts I want to get and who I want to build, and even have parts for a Stone Rat I want to finish someday. I just have to be aware of my budget. ^ ^"

The collection so far, I decided to start with Onu-Wahi

Kofo-Jaga

Small scorpions, I call them “Ini-Jaga” because they’re eeny.

Fikou

Small bugs, I call them “Tolotolo”

Caravan Matoran (names pending, at least if I don’t feel like saying the right one is Zemya)

Holding a Vuata Maca fruit and a Bamboo Disk

Ussal

Mata Nui critters were the best.

Call me old-fashioned, but Bionicle still having Technic DNA was peak.

My favorite’s gotta be the Ussal and cart. That fits in perfectly with the rest of the MNOG vibe, and it’s a shame we didn’t get a set of something like this in one form or another.

Excellent work!

If we see a Bionicle G3, I’d like to see a return of the old Technic functions and all that stuff… It’s really what set Bionicle apart from a theme like Ninjago.

That cart is so cool! Like Ghid, it’s my favorite build here. It looks like it could have been in an actual set!

I tried my very best to match the vibe. I think I actually modeled it off a Technic construction vehicle from around that same time period.

love everything about this

however greg said that matoran never invented the wheel so the cart cannot exist in canon

How do we know it isn’t a smooth gear

What is a wheel if not a gear with its teeth pulled

These are so cute!
I always loved the creature builder from 2002, these definitely seem to be a loyal expansion of it. Well done!

Thankie ^ ^
I might call them something like “totolo”, which I think is the Samoan word for “to crawl”.

These are lovely. The cart is a very fun model and I like how all the Rahi and Matoran look together.
