I saw this on eBay and I remember my uncle telling me a rumor that before the 14 karat gold masks were made they tested the casts with silver or pewter. To make sure the masks would fit on the head without scratching the official headpiece.
Note: whoever this guy is on eBay. I’m pretty sure they owe one of the metal casts. Even though Lego said that they “destroy their casts” I’ve Heard of people not only finding them but restoring them to full function so they can create their own things. I think this guy is one of them mask does work on official heads. Also mask is not magnetic.
Here it is Right next to a regular skull Spider mask. You’ll see not only that there are no official stamps for the circular bits on the regular one are not on the metal one that clip the mask into the head.
And yes official Lego pieces on the side clips do work on it with no stress and nothing hindering anything. I can’t wait to use this for my next moc. Hope you all enjoy
That’s a super cool find! It looks awesome, I always love shiny parts (whether it be chrome paint or actual metal). Looking forward to your MOC with this!
Given the discussion around the mold it seemed to fit the content more accurately than LEGO creations as this isn’t a LEGO creation, but simply one metal piece either produced by LEGO themselves or custom made by someone else. The only other category this would fit best in, if confirmed to be a custom made object, is artwork, but given that artwork is for content made by the topic creator, it didn’t seem to fit there either.
So I have been taking to his guy on ebay, and he told me, he worked with the guy’s that created the 14k gold 2015 masks. before they made the masks themselves they Used Stainless steel, silver and Pewter, to test the first Casts for the masks. He said there are 3 of each of these working masks in these 3 metals. He’s selling a 2015 Stainless steel gali mask. But its a bit more Expensive because the lego Stamp of approval is not
Damaged. That’s why I got a good deal on mine.
He was only able to save 3 of the damaged sliver masks. One skull spider, on kopaka, and a 4 horned mask of creation. Which he’s more than likely not going to sell.
It also seems kind of weird to me that Lego would make a metal mold for what is presumably a prototype mask. Maybe the decision to make metal masks came super early?
Maybe, that or it could have been to try and see which of the molds would work without Defects. Then again, they did brought the theme back super early. My uncle told me these Existed beforehand, but I didn’t think any of them Survived. Until I meet this ebay seller.
