Nintendo Switch 2: Electric Boogaloo

This really is the Nintendo Switch 2 of all time.

I like it.

It’s not mind-blowing, but depending on exactly how powerful it is, it could be a fantastic upgrade.

I like that the Joy-Cons have been simplified in how they connect. The original rails were always super awkward. The larger tiny shoulder buttons also make them more viable as individual controllers. According to the leaked patents, they also appear to be using hall effect sticks, so thankfully no more drift.

I’ve also heard rumors that they will be able to operate like a mouse, which is big if true. Imagine playing Metroid Prime 4 with PC FPS aiming. Don’t know how the left controller would work in that situation, but interesting to think about.

But to reiterate, the make or break for the Switch 2 will be its performance. The OG Switch has been holding back current-gen games for almost a decade. I sincerely hope the Switch 2 can keep up. Time will tell.

Side note, I actually like the new Mario Kart. My first Mario Kart ever was Super Circuit on the Gameboy Advance. The retro character designs remind me of that game a lot, and along with the nice animations I’m actually pretty excited.

Analysts seem to be speculating that the tracks are also going to be gigantic (it’s already soft-confirmed the game will have 24-person multiplayer), and that you can have kart customizations to take paths on different terrain within the track. Excited to see if that turns out to be true.

It really is quite an interesting system. I don’t plan on buying it any time soon just because of budget constraints and the fact that I already have the regular Switch, but if enough good games are released I may think about it.

I’m not a fan of the hardware design, though. It feels too bland and lifeless. I like the classier design they tried out, but I miss the bright colors of the original Switch. Also, the circular corners of the dock are weird.

Looks cool, not looking forward to spending 300 dollars (or more) but if they release another Botw style Zelda game that is exclusive to the switch 2 I might have to. Though I don’t expect that to be for awhile.

Looks pretty similar to the original, but the original was already very good so I’m not complaining. I’m happy to see that nintendo is still coming up with innovative ideas, this time with the mouse feature

I think the Mario Kart art style change was needed to give the game a unique identity since the standard art style effectively reached its graphical peak in Mario Kart 8

This sounds interesting, almost like an open-world mario kart

I think they said they wouldn’t make any more after totk

Anyone wanna take bets whether the Pokemon games will run and look better on this console or if they’ll still look and feel awful?

How do they perform on other Nintendo consoles? Or is it just Switches where they have problems?

My only question is regarding physical games

I know there will be Switch and Switch 2 games, but does that mean the Switch 2 will have different cartridges, like how 3DS games are slightly different from standard DS games? If that’s the case, I may have to start setting money aside for this thing.

Even if the carts look the same, I feel there may be something in Switch 2 cartridges that will prevent it from being played on the old Switch.

Well 3DS got about two gens. The X and Y and ORAS stuff ran and looked fine, if not being lackluster story wise for X and Y. Sun and Moon I’d argue is where the issues with performance began. I remember Sun being laggy in quite a few areas.

But the actual controversy has been Gamefreak’s laziness with Sword/Shield and Scarlet/Violet and not optimizing the games despite having a far more powerful console to work with, as well as not having as many Pokemon and downscaling them, and not having good looking graphics. Pokemon Let’s Go is a meh remake, and so was the Diamond and Pearl remake (I hate the art style). This has been going on for a few years now with the bad decision making.

It’s confirmed backwards compatible with Switch 1, meaning you can use Switch 1 cartridges on Switch 2.

But I doubt you can use a Switch 2 cartridge on a Switch 1 because they do actually need a reason for you to buy the new model (let alone that Switch 2 exclusive games will probably be too large or advanced for the Switch 1 to even run).

I figured as much. I was just hoping in vain that I wouldn’t have to upgrade if I didn’t have to.
