Old Marendar MOC

Inspired by recent discussions in the canon contests thread, I’ve decided to post my old MOC of Marendar. It’s not that good, but I liked taking photos of it, so now I’m making you suffer by looking at them.

Back in my youth, when the story serials were still new and on “temporary” hiatus, for whatever reason I envisioned Marendar as resembling the green blocky robot from Robots. Couldn’t tell you how I came to that conclusion, but in 2012 I decided to attempt a MOC of this vision of mine, and since then it’s been laying around in my basement. My memory is of course a bit fuzzy from this time, but as far as I recall, the main elements I wanted to carry over from the robot to Marendar were “blocky” and “green.” I think I succeeded in one of those areas.

One concept that I do still like from this attempt is his array of weapons. Backups upon backups, like the Terminator (I assume, I haven’t watched a single one of those movies). That’s one concept I would like to see carry over into the potential future depiction of the character, it having a veritable armory to pull from.

From the top we have (as I recall/presume):

Energy Crossbow, complete with broken “sight.”

Laser Rifle/Shotgun, that I totally didn’t forget to take a distinct picture of until just now.

Dagger Harpoon, attached magnetically, it can shoot off and return to its position.

Ice Sword, to do “ice” things with.

A small jetpack for a big guy.

Additional Images

“Like what you see, punk?”

Warped plastic makes me sad. :crying_cat_face:

A new challenger approaches.

“I reckon we got ourselves a good old-fashioned standoff.”

Marendar throttles Takanuva so hard he breaks the fourth wall.

How to properly talk to short people.

“I BEAT THEM ALL!”

And… I think that’s basically it. Should the Marendar contest ever happen, I thoroughly doubt this will be what I enter, assuming I enter at all. But, having made him a decade ago, it’s pretty neat to finally be showing him off. So that’s cool I guess :+1:
