Origin of the whirlwind, part three: The Split

Yep, shoulda seen this coming. Anyway, finally got my lazy … self, ahem, to write up another lore drop. Anyway, here’s the previous entry if you want to read that: Origins of the Whirlwind, part two: the Toa Kaha
Now, onto the story!

We last left our heroes celebrating their victory over the toa examination, and gaining their team name, the toa Kaha. Due to their unique set of skills, the great being Hub chose the Toa Kaha for a special mission. They would be roaming Toa, flying through space in search of Toa teams in need of backup. And this help could not have come at a better time, as not long after the Toa Kaha set sail from Ultra Magna, a Toa killing monster was released into the universe: Marendar.

Everywhere the toa Kaha went, they found toa teams decimated by Marendar, always too late to help them. They had their fair share of battles to fight, as many times planets would be at war in the wake of Marendar’s destruction. During these fights, Khaita quickly gained a reputation in the group, both for their impressive ability to fend of hoards and their seeming lack of respect for orders. The more teams they saw decimated, the angrier Khaita became, and the less they followed orders. They also became distant and cold to the rest of the group, no longer being the friendly matoran who brought them all together. They seemed especially cold towards Tyrrahn.

Finally, after Marendar was defeated and the new greater beings came to power (it’s a long story, maybe I’ll share it one day) Khaita broke away from the team entirely, stating that their duty was null, as most other toa were already dead. Tyrrahn also broke away from the group, deciding to stay on Ultra Magna to help with the reconstruction efforts after the final battle.

While Tyrrahn found new meaning on Ultra Magna, Khaita found new meaning in closing the dimensional rifts that had started appearing and killing anything that came through them. The remaining toa Kaha tried to keep in touch with both Khaita and Tyrrahn, with little success on Khaita’s end. The only one they spoke to regularly was Hoari, and they remained close friends throughout the separation. Finally, after many years of finding and closing rifts, Hoari reached out to Khaita again, this time with a message from Ekimu, greater being of unity. A new threat to the universe had arisen, and Ekimu needed Khaita to help deal with it.

When Khaita arrived at Ekimu’s meeting place, they were not greeted by Ekimu, but instead by Tyrrahn, who had also been summoned by Ekimu. After a short and awkward exchange between the two toa, and then an extended awkward silence between the two, Ekimu stepped out of the temple the two were waiting at. They bowed to their great leader but Ekimu insisted it was not necessary.

“Please, I must talk to you both face to face” Ekimu told them. “Let me describe the situation. Four powerful entities have joined forces and have gained access the space travel. Now they threaten the peace we fought so hard to create. Khaita, you have proven yourself a worthy toa, so I ask you now to help me defeat this villainous alliance. I will warn you, however, as you are now, you stand little chance. So I tell you this; you must seek out the elemental stones from their guardians and wield them to be able to fight the enemy’s. Do you accept this mission?”

Khaita took a nee, bowed their head and said “I swear I will find the elemental stones, and take down this threat!”

“In that case, I bestow upon you, the shield of channeling, that way you may better use the power of the elemental stones” Ekimu said, handing them a silver shield made of protosteel. Khaita took the shield and stood up, raising their sword high.

“To victory!” Khaita shouted and Tyrrahn and Ekimu followed suit.

Ekimu then showed Khaita a second gift, a new ship to fly around the universe with, this one much faster than their old one. Not only that, but Ekimu had upgraded Khaita’s old solar sailer, the Comet’s Tail. After that, Khaita waved goodbye to Tyrrahn and Ekimu, and took off, leaving just the two of them. Ekimu then turned to Tyrrahn.

“As for you Tyrrahn, I have an important job to you as well” Tyrrahn knelt as Khaita had before.

“Whatever this mission may be, I will gladly accept. It is an honor to serve you, Ekimu.” Ekimu nodded, then began to lay out his plans for Tyrrahn. At theme of it all, Tyrrahn said “I understand” and left the planet to fulfill his own mission.

As Khaita’s autopilot took them to their first stop, a jungle planet called Ieto, they flipped through the files on this group of villains. First on the list was Kruphix, a fairy lord from the planet Feyloft. He had created a fairy empire on the backs of his enslaved peoples, nearly conquering the entire planet until toa intervention. He had been banished to an asteroid in the belt that surrounded the planet, where he used the resources he gathered there to make weapons. He was the most recent addition to the villain collective, as far as his sources could tell. He was ruthless and cunning, and incredibly good at subjugating entire populations, making him the perfect general for their army.

Next up was Briselda, an infamous space pirate known for attacking toa ships and developing their own toa-like war machines they were listed as one of the greatest threats in space. Griselda had recently broken out of Solaris prison, the most high-secure facility to ever be built. It was her ship that the group were using to run their organization, and while her old crew may be locked up, it wasn’t hard for her to quickly build a new one. She was ruthless and merciless, never taking captives. Her cannon arm makes her dangerous at far range her tail, underhanded tactics and surprising strength made her dangerous at close range as well. She’s the muscle of the organization.

fun fact

This was originally built as a secret Santa gift for @TotalMaddness and was supposed to be a “space warlord” version of her self moc, Photez. However, the version of Photez I based it on was outdated even at the point I made it, however it was the only version I was able to find at the time. The build also used to have horns, but the illegal connection used to attach them made me uncomfortable, so I removed them.

Third up was Hexadrone, a weapons engineer with an impressive resume, making weapons for both sides in the War of the Great Beings. Not only was he good at making weapons, he was also good at selling them, and using his profits, influence, and weapons to perpetuate conflicts long past their expected expiration date. Before it was discovered that he was extending wars he was well respected, and it was shortly after his true nature was discovered that he joined the villainous group.

Finally was their leader, Selena. The file on her was much shorter than the rest, only stating that she was the brains behind the operation, and the de-facto leader. She was also the one who formed the group in the first place, her motives not yet being known. It was even unsure where she came from, according to Khaita’s sources. However, Khaita knew exactly where she came from; a rift. Khaita recognized her almost immediately upon seeing her picture. She was the one rift entity that Khaita had been unable to kill. Once they lost her, they had tried to track her down, but to no avail. Learning this gave Khaita all the more reason to want to compete this mission.

Finally, Khaita’s ship began its final descent to Ieto’s surface, and they steeled themself for the challenge ahead, ready for whatever came next.

Alrighty, that’s all for today folks, hope you enjoy, there will be more later. How much later? :man_shrugging:. Bye!!!
