I am aware that the Bionicle 2017 Topic has been closed, but I would like to hear some theories about what the last year of Bionicle may have entailed. What do you think the designers had in mind for the final part of G2 Bionicle?

Makuta broke free and is on Okoto, and with whatever is in the shadow realm as his army, he starts to take over, but the Toas and Ekimu give their lives to banish all evil.

I think it would’ve probably been basically the same story that we ended up getting, just with Makuta actually escaping, the Toa probably getting upgraded once more with “light” powers, and hopefully fewer mind-numbing plot holes and stupid prophecies.

Do you think that if the story was still ongoing, the the non-canon masks would have been in the story and Ekimu would have kept his new transformation?

Probably not since it seemed to be a temporary form.
I would’ve liked to have seen Bingzak, Harvali and Narmoto’s son get a set form, even with Bingzak or Harvali becoming the Master of Light.

I think that the Hunter Mask that Ekimu the Mask Maker included was going to be used to free Umarak from Makuta’s control and delay his arrival, causing some shenanigans until he was freed, caused some mayhem and then JTO ending only this time hes actually done something and is banished along with all of his minions, making so Okoto isnt faced with the same problems it started with.

I think, as others have said, the Umarak mask would have been used to free him of makuta’s influence and turn him back to normal, Makuta would have escaped,
what would have been cool is (credit to @ColdGoldLazarus for a bunch of these ideas) if the toa got pulled into the shadow realm and Makuta escaped, killed Ekimu on the spot (thereby killing both the toa’s mentor and his brother), then brought his forces through the shadow realm, preferably all sentient with maybe an extra horde enemy so they can overrun the island. The toa in the shadow realm would be tainted by darkness and have to find a way to balance both the light and shadow within themselves, and if the shadow realm is the opposite of the normal world, you’d have a singular light entity and 6 elemental parasites (to mimic umarak and the creatures).
the toa would return to okoto when they balance the light and shadow (maybe even be able to mix shadow with their normal elemental powers) and start freeing the villages one by one, inspiring hope and having the villagers join them in the fight against Makuta. In the end you’d have a giant 6v6 between the toa and sentient villains, the Okotans fighting the horde enemy, and as the final battle all 6 toa vs makuta, who win after a long fight, destroy the MoUP, do not kill Makuta but instead throw him into a cell (like the one in the third book that Kulta was in that negates any powers he has) and have the toa’s origins explained, using the Vahi, have a wink and a nod to G1, and that’d be how it ended.
I think that’d be pretty cool
