Quick review: Racers 8136 Fire Crusher

Hello there, and welcome to this review! Let’s take a quick look at the Fire Crusher from Lego Racers.

This set with the number 8136 was released in 2007 under the Power Racers subtheme. The year’s gimmick was a crashing function where one or multiple parts would fly off the car when it hits an obstacle.

Here’s what you get with the set. For just 61 parts it’s a nice and varied selection.

Building the car is a quick and easy process. It definitely looks eyecatching with its unique silhouette, colors and differently sized wheels.

The set comes with five stickers which add some nice purple flame details. Speed Devil is a wonderfully edgy name for a car.

Unfortunately, they’re starting to crumble away, which is a problem with many older Lego stickers.

The car does feel kinda unfinished. The back would’ve definitely benefitted from a few more parts and it looks rather hollow from some angles.

Let’s look at the set’s main attractions: its play features! First there’s obviously the pullback motor, which is fast, strong and goes quite far. Then there’s also the crashing feature: bumping into an obstacle makes the bumper catapult the hood away.

This feature works really well and is honestly quite fun. The car is robust (besides the hood, which is on purpose) and can easily survive these smacks.

That’s all there is to say, so let’s end this with a list of pros and cons:

What’s good about it?

  • nice selection of useful parts
  • unique design, robust construction
  • two play features that work well

What could be improved?

  • looks a little unfinished
  • stickers don’t age well

As a final verdict, I’d rate this set positively. Keep in mind that it is meant to be played with, and as a fun plaything it definitely succeeds!
