Redesigned 2003 Hockey sets

This has been a fun experiment, which started after watching oboeshoesbricks’ video about that theme. These redesigns use recolors that don’t exist irl, such as the Nuva limbs or the colored Rahkshi lower torsos. It also uses 1 part, which didn’t come in 2003, and that’s a technic gear that’s used for the torso build, but since it’s the only part that didn’t occur back then and that they made a lot of molds for that line, I consider it a good compromise. For the rest, all the parts should have been available at the time, as part of this fun “what if“ scenario. The redesigned chassis should still be buildable irl, just not in these exact colors.

I couldn’t find the faces and hockey sticks on stud.io, so I used Rahkshi staffs, and also tried some Toa masks at one point. Even though the masks wouldn’t fit the helmet irl, some of them looked weirdly fitting.

Here we have redesigned Flip Shot (blue one) and Puck Passer (red one) in a “dynamic“ pose.

The main gimmick is the same of the Rahkshi/Vahki, though it’s the 2003 Matoran that made me want to try this redesign. Depending on how you angle the end of the stick, you can achieve two different “play styles“, defensive and offensive.

And if you mirror the way the stick is held, you can end up with 4 configurations, as seen below. From left to right, you have Flip Shot, Puck Passer, Slap Shot, and Slammer Goalie.

Back view. The axle pin technic connector attached to the Rahkshi lower torso is only there to make the build look less bare.

And here are the other 3 sets for a total of 4 more characters. The first two (green and black/orange) would be part of 3544 Game Set, the blue and yellow one would come in Puck Feeder, and the last one would be the NHL Action set, which was a standard figure with lots of shoulder pads and stickers for customization, that’s why I included those Nuva shoulders and 2 alt masks.

Lastly, if anyone wants to try to build any of these models, here are partial instructions for the main torso build. The rest should be fairly easy. The stick uses a 12L axle, but Idk how well that works with the official stick pieces, so feel free to change it. Oh and Slap Shot is the most buildable of the bunch, since the white Nuva limbs came with Takanuva. I think you only need to change colors of the gear which still doesn’t come in black according to stud.io, and the Rhakshi lower torso.

That was it. Hope you like these redesigns! They were fun to make.

Are there any pieces Slap Shot possesses that prevent it from being fully buildable?

I think the Rahkshi torso doesn’t come in that color. May be wrong though.

These guys are fun! The legs are a bit long for my liking, but I suppose that makes them have more humanlike proportions.

Great idea, nice execution! I like that they have a uniform look while each one is still unique. Imo one small thing that’d improve the figures is the addition of ice skates (that should be pretty easy with the Toa Mata and Bohrok feet you used here).

The gear feature is great, much more elegant than bonking them on their heads. Reminds me of this model from the Technic universal set 8062.

The redesigned Slapshot still featured a black Technic gear and a white Rhakshi lower torso, which don’t exist in those colors, though a light gray Rhakshi lower torso piece does exist, so the irl counterpart should be nearly identical to my model on stud.io.

@Minethuselah Thx! Perhaps they look too skinny compared to the chest armor too? Or is it just the length?

These Hockey sets you redesigned are radical and awesome.
