RedPandalorian's MOC topic

Hello, ___ of the internet! I have decided to make an MOC topic so that I don’t spam the Boards with V2, V3, and V4 topics. Here is what will be posted here:

  • Brand-new MOCs won’t be posted here, but rather updates to the MOCs. This way, I will still be an active posting member, and I really like posting. Also, I think new MOCs deserve their own topics. They have rights lol.
  • Tell me what you like and dislike about the MOC. The feedback really helps me update MOCs.
  • As for my SelfMOC, I likely won’t be making that many changes for stability and regarding the tail until I buy him in the summer. I need to touch G̶r̶a̶s̶s̶ bricks to make relevant changes.

And that is it! I hope you enjoy this topic!

Here is the first addition to this topic! I present, RedPandalorian 5.5! I find @ChubChub86 a nice guy, so I built bigger feet. I also filled in some gaps. I have a question for you guys later in this post, too, about what looks better.

(Pretend the tail isn’t there. As I said in the main topic, this tail will not be updated until the summer.)

Here are the renders.

And here is my question for you:

I can’t add a poll. I don’t know why, but the the add poll button isn’t working.

So uh, which looks better? Green or blue? And just so you know, @TotalMaddness, you said in 5.0 that the shins would clip with the roboriders heads. Well, look at this. It doesn’t and it didn’t in 5.0 either.

And for @ChubChub86, here are the glorious pics of big feet.

And then the new boot for that foot. I made sure to fill it out so that it looks like a boot that this foot could wear.

And that’s it! I hope you guys don’t toss me in the trash with judgment or something lol.

Semi-bombastic criticisms not regarding the tail are welcome.

Those are some nicely sized feet :+1:.

Jokes aside though, I do prefer the new size much more. I also think they fit the look of the rest of the build better rather than just being a plain bohrok foot.

imageI watch my topics so closely, I saw you replying.

Anyway, I’m glad you appreciated the feet! I was originally going to use the foot design from that Lariska MOC we all know and love, but protector feet don’t come in blue, so I ended up not plagiarizing.

Bohrok foot boring. Big foot fun. :+1:

Well, this new foot design has left me flat-footed!

As my above post implies, I like the feet, but they are a little flat in my opinion. I think that’s mostly because of how far out the Bohrok eyes jut–if they were a little shorter, it might look a little more Bionicle-esque. I prefer the boot version personally, as it feels more complete and filled-out. No matter what, though, it’s definitely an improvement over the straight Bohrok feet, in size and shape alike.

No, you misunderstand what I’m saying. The roborider heads aren’t a problem and never were. It’s the physical geometry of the Inika leg’s knee ball joint. It isn’t designed to be used with a CCBS friction extender. Look at that side view again. See how above the ball joint itself there’s like, a small ~2mm section of thin plastic that extends past the ball and then continues up towards the kneepad at a slight angle? That element of the design physically prevents the friction extender from being attached to the knee joint properly. It’ll fit, but you won’t be able to bend the knee completely straight because the friction extender, with its slight bulge towards the top, can’t fit between the thin plastic panels on either side. If you keep the knees as they are he will be perpetually in a slight crouch

OK…

Now I know what you mean… That is gonna be a PAIN to fix…

Well, thanks for giving me the heads up! I will be rebuilding now.

UPDATE:

I’ve made a new design.

I built it IRL so that I can GARANTEE it will work.

Here are the photos:

I started saying “RUBBER BAND” like all the fish people in the Spongebob Squarepants movie.

Ever since I started watching Mitch Builds videos, I’ve been OBSESSED with rubber bands. They are so helpful!

Noktama Update:

I have updated my Noktama MOC! I reworked her insides to be stronger and made her a new weapon because I lost the old one.

Here are the pictures:

Posed picture:

Front pic:

Sides:

Back:

The part I’m most proud of is how I FINALLY reworked her thighs to not fall apart constantly:

With this picture of her backside, it almost feels like I’m trolling you.

However, this new design gets rid of her weird mutant eyeball cheeses. See the old post and look at the backs of her thighs if you wonder where the weird mutant eyeball cheeses were:

I just realized I told you specifically to look at her backside. It’s kinda funny, so I’m leaving it like this.

]

And here is a close-up of her new weapon:

And here is the prototype weapon! It turns out, Noktama is too much of a dainty Bonklette to hold the heavy thing, so I scrapped it. Feel free to use the design in your own MOCs, though! I see that it can be useful for adaptive Toa Nuva MOCs, Halo-inspired builds, or for anything that needs a cool sci-fi blaster. The blade up top moves up and down a little, allowing you to load the Thornax launcher and shoot it:

(If you plan on using it, credit me. It is a relatively simple build, but if you can’t figure it out, let me know if you need instructions!)

And now it is time to address the Kane-Ra in the room: The damaged Kanohi. Noktama’s mask got damaged when I was Krazy-Gluing a light blue cheek panel that was peeling off (right side of image), and I poured way too much glue. The glue damaged most of the paint on the side of the mask, so I had to chip it off. The result is this terribly damaged Kanohi:

And that is Noktama! I hope you like her as much as I do! (She is my second favorite MOC after my SelfMOC.)

Let me know what you think in the replies below!

Cool! I love the fact that the changes are barely visible Great work :+1:

New Tail design for all you tail critics!

I have made a new tail design for my SelfMOC because… Well, lets say the old one is too expensive. I have saved up $150 over the past few months to buy my SelfMOC, but this is all I can buy with that money:

BIONICLE IS SO EXPENSIVE!
So, to keep my favorite boi from being tailless, I have decided to touch bricks and throw together my best tail yet! Currently, my prototype wears this tail.

And here are more pics for more judgments:

I am aware that the textures are off, but I don’t mind.

I built this tail around CCBS, so it uses custom-built CCBS shells to give armor and detail.

Here is a closer look at that CCBS

And an even closer look!
This topic is kinda dead, so I’m gonna call out a few names to get attention lol

Oh yeah, and @ChubChub86
Let me know what you think. I’m desperate lol

An interesting design for sure, but it looks even messier than the previous version. On that tail the clashing textures mostly worked for a scruffy/fluffy look, but on this one it just looks super messy and unfitting. It’s also a bit too bulky imo, the previous tail was also bulky but retained a certain sleekness which this one lacks.

How well does the figure balance? I suppose it’d have the same stability issues as the last tail, but seeing that you’ve built it irl you might’ve kept that in mind.

Also…

How does the black armor attach to the CCBS bone? Does that technic connector clip onto the ball? I feel like that’d stress and damage the piece sooner or later.

All in all, you’re on a good way! I like it less than the previous version, but I really appreciate that you’re using actual Lego now. That will definitely help finding some new design ideas. The tail really feels like a neverending story, but I’m sure you’ll nail a satisfying design eventually!

It is guaranteed that if I had the right parts, I would change some things…

The last tail was the same width. It is the shorter length + the same width that might make it look too thick for you. Also, the Red Panda’s tail is thick, which is why it looks so thick on humanoids lol. If I made it thinner, I wouldn’t like it because of the lack of volume.

Okay, but he needs to do the Michael Jackson lean to balance the tail when fully straightened. The tail works best curved down as a third leg for balance. However, I am surprised that dynamic poses can be executed even better than without the tail. STrAnGe HoW gRaViTY wOrKs.

I just shove the connector on the ball. I like the technique, and so far it has never broken when using it like this on MOCs. However, it does warp the part over time.

The big success with this one is that I’ve gotten it shrunken to a size I like now. The last design was longer than the MOC was tall lol.

I doubt that, lol. Everyone on the bords have VaRyInG ideas of how a tail should be, so it will never stop changing. But this is the best design so far in function and scale.

$150 is quite a bit, you better make sure you’re dead certain on all those colors!

I’m still not sold on that tail. I’ve built this little thing to demonstrate what you could do for a more cohesive look:

Idea

It’s made using single axis hinges, but you could probably make it with Mixel joints too. It’s not a lot of freedom of motion, I know, but I think a more cohesive look is gonna beat posing capabilities here.

Another alternative that I’ve done before is just making a custom tail using craft supplies. I think you’ve said you wanted it to be purist, but if you plan to build it in real life, you could probably make something out of cotton balls or felt mounted to wire.

Third idea is taking inspiration from this set:

Set

The fox has a bushy tail you may be able to use (though the scale may be off slightly). The squirrel also has a decent construction I could see working for you.

My last recommendation is this one technique I saw on YouTube for a guy’s Garchomp:

Garchomp

It uses the bolts from Aaron’s crossbow as joints; I think you could use some slopes and wedge plates to make the joints more covered as well.

It’s definitely worth ironing out every single detail with a self MOC, I know from experience that one tiny detail that’s off for a self MOC can ruin the whole thing.

I discovered after this post that the belt costs $66. I changed it. Now that the MOC price has dropped, I went ahead and added the original tail back. However, the shipping costs might make me drop the tail again… I don’t really know until I do it, which will take a while…

Is anyone ever gonna be?

This is system. My earlier design, for 1.0, used system and was a failure. If I’m going to keep the feel similar to the rest of the build, this is not the way to go.

I’ve thought of that, but again, what is Bionicle about that?

More system…

So much system…

This will not be the last version. Even after buying the MOC, I will keep updating it for many months afterward. Right now, I think it is in a place where I feel the main model (minus the tail, the tail is like its own MOC at this point) is at a point where I will work on it with my fingers, and not a glitchy program. I am done with Stud.io; I am far better at building physically. Anyway, I’m out!

I recently had to spend $70 for just system parts . Though $30 of it was for shipping so keep that in mind I guess.

As for the new tail, I like the end half because it actually looks fluffy but the rest looks a bit odd, especially the black segment since it gets narrower towards the end where it feels like it should do the opposite.

Overall I think the tail could use more consistency, rough or smooth.

Bionicle is more per brick, typically

I will keep that in mind. FLuffy = better tail

Should be easy to change. I will edit the black segment to be both fluffier and taper in the opposite direction.

I will edit the black section for more consistency, but due to parts limits, the section with the Metru feet will stay mostly the same.

Thanks!
